“There is no ‘gay gene’ that determines whether someone has same-sex partners,” says Andrea Ganna, a geneticist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and the University of Helsinki.

Family studies have suggested that genetics account for about 32 percent of heritability of homosexual behavior. But each SNP, or single nucleotide polymorphism, has a very small effect on whether someone has ever had a same-sex sexual partner, the new research found.

“The study is a big step forward because of its huge size,” says J. Michael Bailey, a psychologist at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., who has worked on sexual orientation genetics but was not involved in the work. It included more than 470,000 people, dwarfing previous research.

Lefties are in a predicament:

They insist that it's genetic and want proof of a gay gene so they don't have to take personal responsibility for their deviance.

But if a gay gene were to be discovered then the abortion rate for gay-positive embryos would skyrocket and they'd be crying "holocaust".

Even if there isn't a gay gene that doesn't mean they have total control over their likes and dislikes.

I am male and the thought of sex with a male makes me want to vomit. I couldn't change that. So I would tend to think that they can't just easily change their preference either.

There are plenty of kids that are obviously homosexual even before they reach puberty. One of my daughters had a friend that she knew was gay even before he did.

As a man's testosterone decreases his sex drive also decreases. That isn't something that is just decided.

I once read an article that said after WWII the percentage of English babies that turned out to be homosexual took a sharp increase. Indicating that the mother being under stress due to bombing etc is possibly the cause of that increase.

So before anyone feels vindicated in hate, they need to first that God that they were not saddled with that burden.

They haven't found any evidence.

big difference

all sorts of shite science has "known" that they came back and "unknew" later

No one wants a gay gene for exactly the reason you mention. Hateful people like yourself would abort their own healthy child because of their own personal and bigoted views. Studies like this which show a strong genetic link and attributes other factors that are completely out of a person’s control are perfect. It’s becoming harder and harder for bigots to defend their views without pointing to the magic sky fairy’s 2000 year old book. Hence why anti-gay views have become a vast minority in this country.

what an absolutely bizarre take on the topic, as literally no one who understands the terminology ever seriously attributed sexuality to one gene. No one. Ever. The concept of homosexual genetics was was always one of a polygene phenotypic expression.
quote:

genetics account for about 32 percent of heritability
And THERE IT IS, literally written in the authors' own hand.--- homosexuality is a polygene phenotypic expression. Heritability is a genetic statistical term defining phenotypic traits in a population c/w genetic variation between individuals in that population. Put differently, claiming no genetic basis while at the same time establishing heritability is doltish.

Phenotypical manifestations
Insofar as living a in total opposition to one's desires is a choice, any sexual behavior falls into that category. So when we talk of choice, we really are taking about level of attraction. Most of us are heavily weighted toward opposite sex attraction. Homosexual attraction is anathema. For many, though not all, gays, the opposite is the case. Carrying on in a hetero life for them would be as disquieting as most of us being forced in to a homosexual life.

So do some choose homosexuality?
Absolutely.
No question about it.

Is homosexuality a heritable trait?
Absolutely.
No question about it.

I always love these narratives. We think that approximately within the margin of error our lizard brains might have a 32.926463829% chance of maybe making us usually want to put our penis where poopoo comes out instead of procreating and propagating our species.

"born that way" has always been mostly bullshite. It exists so that gays can legally be declared a protected class. That's all it was ever about.

In truth, as always, some men are born gay, some achieve gayness - and some have gayness thrust upon them.

There never will be scientific evidence of a gay gene. Everyone always knew this.
