I’m still a critic. Last year he was a massive liability. I know it was GSU, but his footwork looked 100% better and he easily handled his man on every play.
Kudos for improving enough to dominate those you are supposed to dominate.
Hope he can translate that into winning a majority of the snaps this week.

He looked slimmed down which was really good to see. He can move a lot better

I believe he will have a very good season.
Those talented running backs should gain lots of yards running behind the blocks of Deculus, Lewis and Cushenberry this season.

I'm just excited to see our OL get to work with a 21st century offense. an actual 21st century offense can mask at lot of shortcomings on the OL. Just look at Ole Miss under freeze; always had a mediocre line (minus Tunsil and Little) and put up 40 a game.
eta: what an insane idea to not let teams put 8 in the box on us half the game. I get pissed just thinking about it. wtf Les

Because I know what we're facing down the stretch (Alabama, Florida, Auburn, even aTm and others), I'm still not crazy about the pass blocking. These were a lot of quick throws and I'm still not ecstatic about the tackle play.
Having said that, I agree with you that Deculus' footwork looks improved - he played with more balance and control than last year. My impression is he had a better game than Traore.

It’s obvious Deculus is about 15 lbs lighter this year. He dominated this week but you still need to see him do it agai st a team like Texas. Traore played well if you ask me. He looks much improved compared to last year when he was a turnstile RT. I’m crossing my fingers Ed Ingram can get cleared. Plug him right in at LG next to Saadihq.

Ingram is not coming anytime soon

There's this guy named Hines...

Deculus had a good game. However, Burrow getting the ball out quick covered up a lot of missed assignments and poor blocking at LT and LG. Traore was the only guy in the rotation on the left side that was consistent.

Having a smart QB get rid of the ball quickly always makes the OL look great. Brees has made many OT sacks allowed stats look better than they actually were.
Anyone notice Deculus on the FG block team when GaSo kicked their only points? He and Traore were in a bunch alignment and Deculus was the designated lineman to jump up/block the kick.

Surprisingly, considering he started several games last year, Hines had several missed assignments. I noticed Cushingberry (spellcheck) getting on his a$$ after one missed assignment where Hines gave the DL a free release when Cush passed the DL off to him.

how do you guys see all these assignment and footwork details? I am being serious. I played and have been watching football my entire life and watching the QB and other skill positions is plenty to keep me busy. do you guys rewatch and rewind plays etc?
or is this possibly a function of having played/coached OL yourselves and just knowing what to look for?

There having to go back or look for it before it happens. I mean i have to.

I rewatch and rewind plays. Especially the scoring and really good plays. I will also rewatch busted plays. Doing this without the emotion involvement allows me to see the details of each selected play. I’ll even do some of it during the live action, to have my own replays. That saves up some of the broadcast so that I can fast forward through commercials.
I’ve also used this to teach my wife or grandson some of the details of the game.
I agree with the comments about Deculus. He looks quicker and better balanced.

I'm not nearly as worried about LT as I was before the game. Traore can play and if Charles isn't there or can't get it done this season, Traore could very well hold it down. Magee and Hines are solid enough at LG but getting Ingram back would be huge

Why are you still a critic and who gives a frick on your opinion? He is a kid who is working his arse off to play better and it seems to be working.

I watch the o line first. And then I replay and watch again after the game. Just a habit from coaching. Watch the line play and you can figure out who’s going to win
