So our pup over did it today and managed to shred the pads on his front paws. Had a couple of what we used to call "flappers" when I climbed.

Don't laugh at me but I used a tiny drop of super glue to glue them back (superglue was originally designed for docs to glue skin) and wrapped them with vet wrap. Had some pain meds we had from the last time he over worked himself.

Any of yall ever had this happen to your pup? What did you so about it?

Thanks in advance.

I’ll take “ things poor white trash do with their pets” Alex, for $100.

Try taking him to a DVM. I’m sure you know everything there is to handle the situation, but there’s alway the slight possibility a professional could help. The expense is just pat if it.

I’d say take the pup to the vet and let them take proper care of it (cleaning/sterilizing/mending). You don’t want an infection.

I hear you and fully accept the critism. There is also the reality that it's after hours on labor day weekend. They aren't bleeding or anything like that. Just trying to make him comfortable until we can get him in to the vet. From what I've read, other than cleaning and an oral antibiotic, there isn't much they can do beyond what we're already doing.

You’ve actually done a good job here. I like the superglue idea but I usually try and keep it on the surface rather than getting it between the flap and the pad.

Keep checking the foot and be sure your vetwrap isn’t too tight. Apply an e collar overnight if he’s gonna lick it. It’s gonna take some time

I’m just busting your balls. Your pet, your choice. If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t have done what you did. Hope you and the pup do well.

Thanks for the reply.

That's exactly what I did, just on the edge of the pad. We gave him a little Gabapentin for the pain. He's about to go to sleep.

Superglue is great for this. U fortunately once their pads get busted up it's tough to get them to heal because obviously they're always on their feet.

Keep it glued and wrapped and it oughta grow back. If you spray his feet with tuff-foot every other day he'll have iron pads.

Toughen his feet via conditioning. I always used happy jack pad kote for split pads. Self treating a dog is perfectly fine.

I'm not sure how much a nerve pain medication is going to help.

Take the dog to the vet. Superglue isn't a medication.

I hate how this is has become the standard response for every dog issue that comes up. If theres any time it's appropriate to do some home doctoring, it's on the dog.

All he wants to do right now is play fetch with his ball. I think he's gonna be ok.

Hit him up with some blue spray and I’m sure he’ll be fine.

Blue Medicine

This stuff works on cut up feet, ripped up ears, etc.

This happened to my lab a few years back.

I just cleaned his paws off pretty good and wrapped them. After 2-3 days he was fine and a week or 2 later the dead skin fell off.

He will be in some pain and limp around a bit but I did my best to keep him off his feet by letting him up on the couch with me.

Mine stepped on an oyster shell last year and cut a huge slice in the main pad. I was concerned as I read that pads are very difficult to regenerate and usually when exposed do not toughen back up. I was by myself on the island so my choice was to cancel someone's fishing trip so I could take her up the bayou or do it myself. I made her as comfortable as I could, cleaned it real good Steri Striped it and wrapped it real good. It took several weeks for that foot to heal but it did just fine. You can tell she is a little tender when she is on gravel but no other signs she was ever injured.

I keep a can of that stuff in my toolbox. It works great for all kinds of cuts. You can also use it on yourself in a pinch
