Going down for the Louisiana Tech-Texas game this weekend. Any suggestions for a good dinner Friday night before hitting Rainey Street?

I definitely wouldn't go here, it's a bad take on southern food. This place has served me 2 of the worst meals I've had in my 8 years in Austin. The free popcorn was the most enjoyable part of those meals. They do make some pretty good cocktails though.
All 3 of the other places suggested are head and shoulders above Moonshine.

If you’re there for lunch time, hit up Perry’s for the pork chop special.

I don’t recommend moonshine, but this is a little excessive.

Iron Cactus on 6th, or if you feel like taking a drive, Fonda San Miguel is excellent.

Don’t do Moonshine, Iron Cactus, or Perry’s. All have gone severely down hill, resting on their laurels and old accolades, and you will be disappointed
Not necessarily downtown, but quick uber rides:
Nisha
Suerte
Launderette
Lichas
Kemuri Tatsuya
Justine’s Brasserie

I had a pretty blah experience there for brunch. Heard good things though.
Definitely hit up Easy Tiger for beer. Their food is good too.
Red Ash is awesome, but you'll need a reservation probably and its $$$.

We have reservations at Brewers Table. Solid place?

It's very good, however haven’t been since the chef who opened it up, departed.
They have different foods at the outside bar that aren’t available inside

Lonesome dove is really good. Get the smoked drink they do. Can't remember if it is Manhattan or old fashioned, but good.

Is G'raj Mahal (Indian) on Rainey still good? I haven't been in a while but always liked the food. It just seemed kinda dead the last time I went.
