Is John McVie’s bass in The Chain the most recognizable immediately in music of the last 50 or so years?

You can hear that bass solo and now exactly where in the song it is.

I don't know it at all

I would guess THIS is the best known bass riff of the last 50 years

Nope.

Never heard of it.

First song that came to mind is another bites the dust.

John Deacon has at least 2 bass riffs that are more iconic.

I don't know how y'all feel about this... But Green Day / Mike Dirnt's bassline in Longview is all-time

**eta: didn't realize it was for most recognizable, but it has to be one of my favorites

My first thought was “Another One Bites the Dust” and almost immediately thought it may be “Under Pressure” instead.

Both are far more recognizable then “The Chain”. IMO.

And I really like The Chain, BTW.

The more I think about it, The Chain isn't even top 10, and it's even doubtful as top 20.

The fact that the bass line of The Chain was the first part of the song that actually existed makes it rather unique but certainly not the best. McVie had that bass line and the rest of the band built the song around it.

I would go with I Want You/She's So Heavy over that one
