How Does the OT Deal With Depression?

I'm 40 years old. Like most people, I've dealt with some bouts of depression here and there. This feels different though. First off, it's been for a couple months now. I always feel so down, and I just can't find joy in anything. Sometimes I feel like crying for no apparent reason. It's a horrible feeling.
I'm in good shape, and I force myself to get a work out in at least 3 times a week. What else can I do? And how does the OT feel about medication for depression?

It's a blessing for those for whom it works. About 20% of people are nonresponders. My wife is one of them.

Get outside and get some sun.

WTF, dude. Go see a doctor. Like yesterday. You think working out is a cure for a brain disorder? Please.
Not too proud to say I was diagnosed with major depression 10 years ago. I take a little pill every day. It works.
Get help.

If your blood pressure is high, you take meds
If your diabetic, you take insulin
If you have an infected wound, you take antibiotics
If your mental health needs improving, meds can work wonders as well

Masturbate.
If that doesn’t work stop masturbating. It sounds ridiculous but some people swear by it.
But try masturbating more first.

What medication are you taking?

Dude talk to your doctor. Not everyone responds well to SSRI medication, but zoloft worked wonders for me. Exercise and working out certainly help a lot, but, for me at least, it was an adjunct therapy combined with medication.
Good luck my man

Do you not enjoy your work? What are your hobbies? And have you seen a counselor about this? Sometimes medication will be the reverse of the outcome you actually desire. I would tread lightly with regards to that.

We don’t get depressed because we’re all 6’4” 205 lbs with 6 pack abs, 9” song, millionaires that bang supermodels every night.
But serious answer, go talk to a therapist or psychiatrist. If you need medication, they will put you on it, but often times discussing it with someone who knows how to talk to you about it really helps.

I am 50 and have had similar issues. Nearly everyone says medication. Mostly I just sucked it up and kept driving on and it went away. Hey if medication works for someone that is great, but that will be the absolute last resort for me. I have seen them type of meds frick up a lot of people. I even went and talked to a doctor and got a script. Reading up on the side effects, especially long term and when you come off of the meds was enough to make me just tough it out.

It's something not to frick around with, fo sho. Do you have a hobby, or something that brings you happiness? Perhaps a trip?

Situational depression does not need medication. Often times people get on SSRI's for situational depression which is unneeded and counter-productive. But there is literally no way to white knuckle yourself through true clinical depression which is a chemical unbalance of brain chemistry.
