what is funny about this is that if you search "examples of google bias"
at the bottom of the page, Google literally gives you links to "popular conservative websites", some of which are apparently "blacklisted"
examples Daily Wire, Breitbard, RedState, Townhall, FreeBeacon, etc
so much for blacklisting those sites...

It took me 3 tries to find that article (by finally searching "Epstein Google bias") using various search results. I am not making that up, you need me to be making it up to justify your own thinking. It is the top result when I use the same 3 original searches now, being purple as a previously clicked link. I also see other results that were not originally there (as an interesting side note). You're dismissing the nature of how the internet works, all so you can deflect from the substance of my previous post, and attack me personally.
Pretend I'm lying if it will get you to focus on the content of the articles you're currently ignoring. I do care when someone calls me a liar without merit, but for the purposes of this discussion, I'll look past that.

First, I did the "bias" Google search on my work laptop which outside of Lexus/Nexus see almost zero internet access and got the same results with "Trump is right" as the first result.
Second, I search for peer-reviewed work quite a bit and they are notoriously hard to find without a very specific search, partly to do with poor SEO and partly because they are buried due to very low traffic, often they are several pages down because very few people actually are looking for them. It is like searching for a very niche brand in a general consumer sector. Without using the brand name you will mainly get Amazon, eBay etc.

Top 3 on mine searching what they did:

Are you still talking about the guy who wrote the article that pops up #1 on google when you search "examples of google bias"?
And FYI, when I google "google bias testimony", which is actually kind of vague considering all that's out there on the topic, and the #5 result was actually a youtube video of Dr Epstein's testimony.
So, without ever hearing of him, it was dead simple for me to find both an anti-google article that he wrote, as well as a fricking video of his senate testimony talking about google. All I had to do was search for very general phrases related to Google bias. I don't know why you're having so much trouble with this.

On my phone...I often get recommended "stories" from popular blogs/forums. In particular, related to the vehicle I drive and my favorite sport(s).
I've also seen stuff linked from 247 that's related to my LSU interests.
On the google app, I have it set to give me stories related to my interest, sometimes I get news stories from this site. I think this site is actually considered a sports site.

So apparently GR8Tiger was wrong about the google search results but he was right that google filters out conservatives? In attacking his search skills you provided the links Draconian was looking for.

But why should a message board show up in a search for news articles?
Because Tigerdroppings breaks news before its news

the general "problem" is that Google more than likely is biased on what it considers "extreme" views in regards to the "right" or the "left"
it isn't filtering out straight up conservative news or sites, but what it deems "far right" sites, which they are probably a bit more easy going on their definition of "far left"
every company is going to have inherent biases, its impossible not to when humans are the ones controlling things
but it isn't near the problem that some conservatives won't to make it seem

From what I can tell, this isn't accurate.
Google is worried about one thing. Having people use their products.
It's for the news searches on Google not the entire internet, search tigerdroppings and filter google to news. Let me know how many TD links show up.

I think this site is actually considered a sports site.
Which is why it's on the black list for news site results on google

"google bias testimony"
Good search. I bet that would have done it for me too. Probably not a lot of results that would fit. You'd have to assume there was any testimony of course, so you're welcome for giving you that info. Did you happen to read the article or watch the video by chance? Since you know, the critique on my Google skills is a pretty effective sideshow to the intent of the thread.

After having already viewed the article. Any chance that had something to do with it? We're talking AI, algorithms and machine learning here.
shite, at least I got you searching this shite.

This is a statement with zero regard for how Google works.

as is this.

Because I gave you the fricking link, which you clicked before keying a search that was related to it. Do you get spooked when a car dealership ad pops up on your screen after you click a review of the 2020 Chevy Corvette? Do you get spooked when that exact same review comes up in the results when you search "2020 Chevy Corvettes"? Have you never noticed dynamic search results before? I'm seriously curious now.

Yikes.

Google also agrees that this site needs to align better with their own beliefs. The question being asked these days is if that's how we want the largest gatekeeper of online information to operate.
We'll put you in the group saying, "as long as their beliefs align with my own, then yes that's how they should operate."
Is that fair?
It's fair to say... some of you people will believe anything without putting a second thought behind it. The cult mentality is strong when it comes to political parties.
People will believe whatever they are told to believe.
shite like this is what divides people even more. Its amazing.

quote:Are you really complaining that a really obscure bit of news is hard to find without reasonably targeted search terms? Google can't read your mind, my man. If you had hoped to just search "google bias" and magically be presented with the exact thing you wanted, well, I don't know what to tell you. Though, even that general search does produce a result (at #5) about the trial for which Dr Epstein testified, though it doesn't mention him specifically.
Good search. I bet that would have done it for me too. Probably not a lot of results that would fit. You'd have to assume there was any testimony of course, so you're welcome for giving you that info.

Since you know, the critique on my Google skills is a pretty effective sideshow to the intent of the thread.
quote:That would be a possibility, of course, if there were blatant bias going on. That would be a strange strategy on google's part, though, showing us more rational searchers anti-google material with no obvious biases.

Also, again, google's results closely match bing and duckduckgo for every "google bias" query I can think of. I have found no examples of google hiding anything negative from me. I even tested some of your dear doctor's theories about search suggestions, and when I type "google bias" Google dutifully gives me suggestions along the lines of "lawsuit", "election", "examples", and "news".
