When we hired for a receptionist at my last job (professional financial advisory firm) we had people shown up in tank tops, facial piercings, smelling like cigarettes, etc. My boss was extremely disappointed not a single person showed up woman's suit, and my boss was young, mid-30s. She said if you can't get yourself together for an interview, you can't represent the company to our standards.
Conclusion, dress better than they expect.
This, 100%!!!
It always amazes me when people show up for interviews dressed casually and smelling like cigarettes. It’s a damn job interview - use common sense!
When they show up like that I sit there during the entire interview just fuming inside pissed that I have work I need to get done but instead I’m wasting my time interviewing someone who won’t come close to the job. My mind immediately goes to picking them apart and finding other things wrong with them.

You will never be uncomfortable being the best dressed person in the room. You will stay uncomfortable if you are the worst dressed person in the room.
My dad told me that 20 years ago and it has applied to every single awkward situation I have been in since then.

I think I've worn it twice in the past 7 years to funerals.
I don't even wear a suit to a funeral. Just slacks, long sleeve button up shirt and a tie.

A Member's Only jacket would complete the look.

yellowfin has spoken, suit it is!
I know most of the people I'm interviewing with even if I've never worked in their area. The company I work for is large and has two different manufacturing sites at this location as well as the quality control building (labs) where I work. I got the suit with the intention of interviewing, just not with my current employer. A business colleague suggested that when interviewing for any management type roll to always wear a suit. Hence my need to have one now. Plus it is nice and I can wear it to a wedding in October.

I have definitely been uncomfortable many of times being the overdressed person in the room.
Not sure if that what you mean.
Would you feel comfortable wearing a suit to a BBQ? Or a Tux to a wedding that you’re not serving in?

Right. Wool comes in infinite varieties. It doesn’t mean heavy and hot. It means a quality fabric. You can’t make a cotton trouser that falls the same, and looks as finished.

A jacket should always be worn with a tie if you are over 12 years old.
If you arent going to wear a jacket lose the tie.

If you are only going to wear it once or twice don’t go crazy and buy some expensive arse Brooks brothers threads or something. Take your arse to men’s warehouse or Dillard’s and get fitted for one that is only a couple hundred bucks.
In a few years you will be too fat for the pants and will have only worn it a handful of times

Interview nude with a raging boner.
Stare the interviewer right in the eyes the whole time, and use the F-word and N-word as much as possible. If firearms are allowed at work, bring one.
Show them you mean business. Promotions are serious stuff, and pussies always get screwed. Be a man, dammit.

Suit with no tie. Change your shirt every time.
Also buy another suit - you should have at least two: one navy, one charcoal. Don’t wear a black suit unless you’re going to a funeral or escorting the President.

Don't bother. If you don't know the answer to this you won't be getting the job. Your lack of confidence is already too high.

Also don’t forget to ask the interviewer if they want to grab a few beers and vape a bit after the interview is over

That's where I got this one a few weeks ago. They had a 50% off sale. Got suit, shirt, tie, belt, and shoes. Looks good on me. I wouldn't have any issues with deciding to wear it or not if:
1. It wasn't so damn hot.
2. They would have scheduled all the interviews for one day.
I'm going to wear it though, need to take it on a test drive.

That is the plan for the future. The one I have now is charcoal. I was told either navy or charcoal for an interview and black for funerals.

If this is humor, you missed the mark. If serious, this is a forum to discuss random stuff, which my topic qualifies as. So you can frick off.

See what the supervisors are wearing. Wear that.
