I lived in Hatcher in the mid 80's, but can't remember if it had AC or not. It had a huge heater and a fan, but no AC - right?

Hatcher did have A/C.
Hodges did not.
The other male freshman dorms with A/C were Power and Kirby Smith - may they both rest in peace! In the mid-80's they went for about $650/ semester.

I stayed in Highland Hall in 97 and 98, and it still didnt have AC. It was the last one on campus to get AC in 99.

It had AC in 1977 when I lived there. The other two dorms that used to be barracks, Johnson and Hodges did not have AC. Neither did the stadium dorm rooms.

I was an RA in Hatcher fall ‘85 to Spring ‘88. We had AC.
Oh, and before any downvotes for being an RA it was a good gig. If I smelled pot I just told the guys to put a towel under their door to seal it and crack open their windows.
Lots of fun and good memories. I loved being able to crawl “home” from Tiger Stadium after a game.

I lived in Power during that time period. Our RA had his girlfriend practically living with him. Therefore, he wasn't about to turn any of us in for doing anything.

I downvoted you for being a trashy RA.

As mentioned, it was Hodges right next to Hatcher that had no AC. I have no idea why someone would spend the money to go to college, but live in a dorm with no AC. That's a miserable existence. Hatcher was a great dorm right next to the stadium and across the street from a lot of freshman classes.

They had five halls without a/c as late as 1998.

As I recall, it was about $450/semester for the dorm rooms with no A/C and $650/semester for the A/C dorms (double occupancy). That wasn't pocket change at the time. Also, Power and Hatcher filled up pretty fast. If you hadn't applied by April of your senior year of high school, you were relegated to Kirby Smith or a non-A/C dorm.

I lived in Power my first 2 semesters as a freshman (fall ‘84 - spring ‘85). Had a cool roommate the first semester but he dropped out so second semester I had the same room to myself cuz occupancy/dropouts the occupancy rate was like 40%

About being at Hatcher, I never crossed any lines other than drinking or sneaking the girl in occasionally. I didn’t bust the folks smoking weed because most of them were mellow and cool. I was trying to keep not just myself but them out of trouble.
