quote:Anyone that thinks Bridgewater is a checkdown QB doesn't know him at all, and should watch his tape from his Minnesota days or even when he was playing last preseason with New York before the Saints got him. Dude throws the ball downfield a lot and makes great throws when he's in rhythm. As a matter of fact I think he has become a check down QB since becoming a Saints QB because Payton and Brees has him thinking he should play that way know. When the pass isn't there get rid of it fast he's thinking more of now, when before he wasn't that type of QB.
Captain check down.
Dude was on his way to becoming an All pro QB in Minny before that injury and was leading them to the playoffs too, that's why they are fond of him up there. People in NO just aren't familiar with how good of a QB he is, but they will find out. This is more of the Bridgewater I know and that the Jets didn't really wanna give up, but did because Sam Darnold was their No. 1 pick. LINK

Teddy may be good, but he’s not good enough to be worth the money we would have to pay him. Not with big payday contracts coming up for Kamara, Rankins, Ramczyk, and Lattimore. Which one of those guys will you give up for Teddy Bridgewater? $15-20 million would be the floor for Bridgewater as a starter. I’d rather go all in on a rookie and build around him.

Yes, if you’re ok with 6-10 seasons.

Looked like he didn’t have very good pocket presence. Brees doesn’t take those sacks. He slides away or steps up easily while looking downfield.

He played almost 40 snaps behind the backup offensive line. Come on now.

You saw a lot of checkdowns because that is what this offense is now. Nothing past 30 yards because our starter can't do that much anymore. Tailor an offense to Teddy and you can get way more out of him than trying to fit him in someone else system (Drew). He isn't Drew.

These people constantly judge this man when every time you see him in game action he is behind backup lines throwing to backup receivers. Lets throw Drew in there with the 2nd and 3rd teams and see what happens huh? Yeah didn't think so. Kid is right around the same age Drew was when he got here. With just as many Pro Bowl appearances under his belt as Drew when he got here. Kid can play. Will he be the next Drew? Man Drew is a HOF. But can we win around Teddy? Yep we can look at this thing we have built. This is a good TEAM. No more Drew throwing for 500 and we lose. We actually make up for a lot Drew dont do anymore.

So he checked down even though receivers were open down the field or was it that the Saints never sent receivers down field?
Just trying to clarify your position.

certainly. im a big teddyb fan. everyone can't be brees/rodgers/brady.
i think he can be the next best thing, which would be awesome.
taysom hill is developing fairly well. we'll see.

Yes, we need a placeholder for Brees until we trade up for Trevor Lawrence.

quote:Well, that's exactly what I'm referring to, an offense that he's used to playing in and not making him into a Brees clone. Let him do what he was doing in Minnesota and with the Jets as those highlights showed. He's checking down a lot in this offense because he feels that's what he has to do now because Brees does it, but that's not him, he has the arm to go downfield a lot.

I agree with your point, Arcalades

quote:What in the world? A) You need to go look at his 2015 stats again. B) He was one of 5 replacement Pro Bowl QBs.

These are the air yard stats from 2015. It's hard to argue that he's not a checkdown QB.

All we need Teddy to do is manage the game and not try to be Drew Brees. I think Payton will adjust the offense to whoever is in at QB whether it's Teddy or Taysom. I also expect the Saints to draft a QB within the next couple of years to add to the competition.

I said All pro, man, not Pro bowl, and he's not a checkdown QB, I don't care what BS stats from 2015 you throw out there.
