The most obvious answer is thathe’s here primarily as a backup in the event of an emergency. However, he’ll probably be given the opportunity to compete for the starter’s job once DB moves on or retires ( I hate to think about it). Nobody can step in and duplicate wnT Brees brings to the team.

I don't think Bridgewater sits another year, he will go where he can compete for the job unless Brees retires after this year.
