Yep. They have experience giving up 138 rushing yards per game. That's pretty shabby.

I remember when we all thought Valentine was going to be the difference maker. He had a lot of potential too. I'm ready to see someone step up and shut down the middle. I think we have the guys, but I'm ready to see it. We've been talking about Shelvin coming through for a while now. He hasn't. I hope he or Ika can make it happen.

Speaking of, I'll go with having to replace 129 points and a Lou Groza Award finalist with a true freshman kicker.
I’m hoping we can field a competent offense so we won’t have to rely on the kicker for all of our points.

Maybe not having a ultra reliable kicker will force our offense into more redzone TDs, at least I would hope (for the latter)

That was still good enough for 34th in the NCAA which I agree is not great by LSU standards.

Meanwhile on the other side of the ball, the Offensive line was 110th in the NCAA in TFL.

You worried about the OLine yet?

Glen Logan is going to have a breakout year and could top Lawrence as the best pass rushing g DE on the team. He really looked like a much improved player the last half of the season.

Chaaiison will be better than key. He’s the best athlete on the field minus grant and that’s debatable. Fehoko and Rashard and Logan will play on Sundays. We just need em healthy. And Cherry is about to make a name for himself. Ferrell also looks good. Dline will be as good as it’s been n a while if RL and BF can stay healthy

Its not on them a lone, but they still need to hold their ground better and occasionally disrupt plays and get penetration the way they did against Georgia

The D-line GAVE up an average of 138 rushing yards per game. That WASN'T great by any stretch of the imagination. We WERE not great at putting pressure on the QB. We GOT manhandled by Bama. And, we basically have the same guys up front PLUS OTHERS AND WITH MORE EXPERIENCE AND IN BETTER CONDITION

I was thinking recently that I'm as excited about this D-Line as any other in recent memory, and we've had some dominant groups since 2000. The ceiling is through the roof, just need to stay healthy (although there is lots of depth).

Don't disagree at all. I'm just saying that before last season one of the most common complaints I heard was how we hadn't had a good kicker in forever, huge need. Enter great kicker and the complaints turn to us depending on our great kicker too much for points. This year we return a ton on both sides of the ball which would lead most to believe that we'll be in every game. A dependable kicker is going to be needed in a handful of games this year to affect those outcomes. That true freshman has to be ready for the bright lights.

There's no sense worrying about the kicker. A guy can be lights out in HS and wilt under the pressure of major CFB. Hanny was talking about this today and mentioned Daniel Carlson from AU who like never missed a friggin kick, then went to the pros and couldn't make chip shots.

You can't predict it, so I just choose not to worry over it.

Yes. Never said I wasn’t. But what really concerns me is our defensive front vs a team who can shut our offense down. Somebody will cause our offense to struggle, and our D line will have to keep us in the game. Can they do it?

Did you know that LSU allowed over 200 yards rushing in 4 games last season?

Alabama - 281 yards rushing
A&M - 234 yards rushing
Florida - 215 yards rushing
Miss State - 201 yards rushing

I understand that we have depth for the first time in a long time, but our starters are going to have to be better than they were last year, and Ika or Shelvin will have to step up big time. So, we are depending on a true freshman and a dude who looks the part, but hasn’t done much yet at LSU.

Y’all are acting like it’s a sure thing, and I don’t think it is. I sure hope y’all are right.

The second half Florida game was really the only time I felt the run defense let us down. We had a couple injuries that game and you can tell the Dline was gassed.

The other games:

- Mississippi State couldn’t throw a forward pass against us. They completed 8 passes in that game. They had no choice other than to run Fitzgerald every play.

- Texas A&M game was 7ot!!! They ran the ball 56 times. You can’t say all the stats from that game aren’t skewed.

- Alabama has run the ball successfully on everyone for the past 10 years. Plus, our offense was ineffective so they really didn’t have to throw in the second half.

This is literally the summary of LSU football the past 10-12 years. Where have you been?
