Everybody's worried about the O-line, and I'm worried about the D-line

The D-line gave up an average of 138 rushing yards per game. That's not great by any stretch of the imagination. We were not great at putting pressure on the QB. We got manhandled by Bama. And, we basically have the same guys up front.
Now, I realize that Chaisson is back, but I would consider him to be unproven at best. He may be great, and he may be a disappointment. I don't think we have enough to make that determination at this point. Same with Shelvin and Ika. The potential is there for great improvement, but that's all it is.
I think the changes in offensive philosophy will bode well for our offensive line. The offense will be more quick strike, and the O-line won't have to give the QB as much time. But the D-line has to be better, especially given the fact that our offense will likely not be on the field as long without our rush-heavy, clock chewing style of play.
I'm hopeful, but, to be honest, that's my biggest concern with this team.

We got more depth now baw, at least 2 deep at every spot. Last year we didn’t really have reliable people for rotations

LSU hasn't had enough depth and beef for the 3-4. That's been changing through the last couple of recruiting classes.

We’re going back to a 4 down, one gapping front like in 2016. The 3 down man up looks only work when we have perfect gap integrity and our down linemen can win consistently against the OL.

You mention "potential" as reasons for concern on the d-line. Speaking of, I'll go with having to replace 129 points and a Lou Groza Award finalist with a true freshman kicker.

Not to mention Fehoko was injured last half of year and was playing with one arm.
Lawrence balled out in bowl game but it sounds like he played through a knee injury as well down the stretch.

Considering he's only started 4 games here, I'd agree. But on the other hand this hype is coming from the coaching staff. In aranda we trust.

Hope you're right. To me, no position on the field yields more uncertainty than a new place kicker. You never really know until you know, you know?

There is functionally little difference between 4 down 3 down.

You have 2 NT that you essentially didn't have last year (Shelvin and Ika) that allows guys like Lawrence and Fehoko to play their more natural End positions. Then you have 3 Juniors behind them that have seen quality playing time behind them. (Logan, Farrell and Thomas).
I don't see how this makes you nervous. This is one of the more deeper Dlines we've had in the past 10 years.

I agree about the kicker. I think we'll be really good this year, but we have legit concerns, and some things are really going to have to fall into place. I think they will, but I'm anxious to see the potential become a reality.

I think shelvin is about to have a monster year. He looks so much better now than he has since he’s been here.

Lawrence, Feheiko and Logan were all starters last year. One will be moving to the bench if Shelvin and Ika can hold down NT

It's not necessarily the Dlines fault alone by any shape of the imagination for rushing yards given up. There's 3 of them, taking on 5-6 blockers, and their job the past couple years has just been to hold gaps and not really attack much, leaving the cleaning up for the LBs/S mostly on run plays.

Our DL issue was more about scheme. They weren’t disruptive because Aranda didn’t want them to be. He wanted them to eat up blocks so the LBs could come free. But i read the other day that the DL will be more aggressive this year and more 4 man fronts.
