THE ONION MUMM

Who invented the onion mumm? That's a good question. Well I am not here to set the the record straight, but only to put my 2 cents in. During the fall of 1986, I worked at Russells Marina Grill on Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans. The year before I worked at Bart's Lighthouse Inn owned by Gary Young, and after Russell's I worked at Deanie's in Bucktown. When I started at Russell's, I was amazed at the onion mumm, which I had never heard of. I understood it was a Russell's creation. My managers at that time were Guy Roth of the Steak Knife family and another man named George. Some of my co-workers were Vince, Celeste, Buddha, Lorna, and Dawn. There may have been a Crazy Legs fried chicken across the street. The other neighborhood restaurants were Hong Kong, Windjammer, Masson's, Sidmar's, Fitzgerald's, and The Bounty. I remember every little detail about working at Russell's in 1986, but with all due respect, I never heard of Tim Gannon, who people are giving credit to for inventing the mumm.

I guess the thread from 2011 was anchored so he started this one.

I one time flew to Alaska and passed through two McDonalds on the way, but I think one was really a Taco Bell.
I think Frank G was the manager at the McDonalds

When I was in high school, the cool place to hang out was the Bulldog Inn. It is no longer there. It was rumored that the guy who owned it was having an affair with one of the managers. I am not here to set the record straight, however.
The curly fries were awesome.

I have a trucker hat from Russell's Feed Store and I've never heard of Tim Gannon either....unless he is that guy from Project Runway, then I've heard of him.

Outback used to credit Phil's marina on their menu for their bloomin' onion. Not sure if they still do.
ETA: Phil's is in Slidell. The OP is correct about Russel's Marina.

I remember everything about working at Russell's Marina Grill in 1986, including everybody's names. We were always told our own kitchen invented the onion mumm. I saw that Tim Gannon created the bloomin onion. Maybe that name, but not the mumm. We didnt have a Tim Gannon working there.
