18 Ints in 1980.
His total of 18 is five more than anyone else has had since 1960.
He also had 5 Ints that were wiped out for penalties.
The current DB averages 2.5 Ints per season.
But he gets no love like the Ronnie Lotts or Ed Reeds of DB fame.
Lester had 23 Interceptions (including the penalty ones that were not called on him in ONE year.)
He formed the greatest DB tandom in the history of the league with Mike Haynes.

You’re including playoff games in that total. He had 13 in the regular season. He also steered himself in stickum, hands , arms, jersey. Stickum was banned after 1980. Lester had 14 total interceptions for the rest of his career (5 more seasons). But 1980 was a spectacular season.
One of the best nicknames in football, Lester the molester. also dubbed himself the only true Jedi in the NFL.
The single season record holder is Dick “Night Train” Lane. 14 regular season interceptions in a 12 game season on a 2-10 team. That is ridiculous.

One would think the other teams would get the hint to throw at the other guy.
unless they had the most spectacular pair of CBs ever seen for a 2-10 team

LSU's loss right there.
Depends on who we signed instead of him. Who was our safety those next few years?

Biggest takeaway...a 1997 high school grad is in the HOF. Mind blown

Marshall Faulk wanted to come to LSU but they wouldn't let him play RB. Curly wanted him to be a DB.

Ricky Jackson over Ray Lewis, Mike Singletary, Ronnie Lott, and most especially Bruce Smith?
Ricky Jackson was the best linebacker of his era not named Lawrence Taylor.

Lott was better
No.
Ed Reed is the greatest defensive football player ever
Not sure which one was better, but I’d be happy with either on my team.

Ronnie Lott was a different type of player than Reed. But you need two safeties on the field. And those would be my 2 choices.

My buddy is convinced Lynch was a better safety than Reed

Did he give a shout out to the Leesvilke Wompus Cats?

Or Derek Thomas

If you truly believed that you’d know how to spell his name.

He wasn’t a better defensive player compared to Bruce Smith. Lott and Singletary had better accolades then him too.

Ed Reed could play safety in any generation and dominate why I would say he is the best

I hated him because he played on two of my least favorite college and pro teams.
But I really think he might have been the best defensive player ever. If not, you can count those better on one hand.
