MATT WATSON: “Good afternoon chief, I need to get statistics for the last 3 years on shootings where someone was struck by a bullet but was able to survive the injury.”
CHIEF MURPHY PAUL: “Matt, we do not have that information readily available.”
WATSON: “I know you have that information. The next step is a very public records request.”
PAUL (IN PART): “If you provide the name of the person who told you that I have this information then we can go directly to the source and provide you the information quickly.”

Twenty days after he put in his request, Watson was provided with the numbers. There were 193 non-fatal shootings in 2018. Through the end of June of 2019, there were 129. Chief Paul offered an explanation for 2017's missing numbers: “BRPD does not have available responsive data for 2017 because it was not previously captured.”
That's a pretty damn big spike.

There have been zero officer involved shooting since Paul took over.

KIRAN: “So are you saying that prior to Chief Paul coming in and starting that, the Baton Rouge Police Department has never kept any records of non-fatal shootings?”
DUNNAM: “Non-fatal shootings, no, we have not.”
bullshite. How could you have not tracked such data?
And playing devil's advocate, let's say they haven't "tracked" this data, that doesn't mean it's not on some form in a file somewhere. Get some desk jockey in there to start entering shite into a spreadsheet.

That guy is a dumbass. He plays stupid to avoid criticism or he’s just stupid. Either way, that’s not what a police chief of the capitol city of the state should be doing. That’s insubordination and he should be publicly reprimanded by the Council.

i bet gravy has the numbers

Sounds like the only thing that's down is shooting accuracy

You know you have a bad bad bad crime problem when the city police doesn't even keep track of shootings where nobody was killed.
Of course they keep track of it. I'm fairly certain they are required to by federal law. Paul was trying to suppress the information from the City Council because it makes he and the mayor look bad.

So if I get shot by my neighbor, go to the hospital, and press charges against my neighbor, that shite isnt logged?
Yea ok
Yea ok

it’s obvious that they know the statistics but don’t “actually” keep track of it. It’s like hey we had 300 fatal shootings in 2016 and we had a total of 500 shootings in 2016. I’m sorry, we don’t keep track of the non-fatal shooting in Baton Rouge. Basically they don’t want to do math.
If I was Matt Watson, I’d ask for all the statistics for every reported crime in the city for the last three years. Then, I’d come to the council meeting and disclose this to the city council and explain how the city police couldn’t do simple math.

Exactly. Your telling me that when an officer pulls up to a non-fatal shooting he doesn't fill out a police report and take a statement from the victim? There is no way.

No what he’s saying is that they don’t actively track it.
Which to me is just as egregious for our police force not to do. As medical technology gets better, deaths due to trauma decrease. Tracking overall shootings is a better indication of violent crime statistic than death by shootings.
On a side note, isn’t this how NO claimed violent crime was down during the Morial regime? Improve hospitals thanks to returning war time medics and stop reporting shots but report murders?

Murphy Paul, like SWB, is borderline retarded.
Or maybe he just didn't have his glasses and has a hard time with math. SWB needs to hire him a fulltime math assistant.

If that were the case it would just be a matter of laziness/ineptitude, but the current stats person for BRPD told Watson she could generate the info easily with the Chief's approval. She can't hide from the homicide stats, but Broome really doesn't want to show that violent crime has increased since her hand-picked police chief was installed, especially with an election next year.

I wonder what would happen to that person.

So they activity track the number of total shootings, and they actively track the number of fatal shootings, but they where unable to quickly provide the number of non-fatal shootings? If the data was available a 4th grader could do the math and figure out the answer. This is just sad.

Violent crime has spiked since all the anti-cop bullshite in the wake of the “CD seller” dying? This is my fricking shocked face.
The cops got tired of policing when they got attacked, verbally and physically, for doing their duty. Hence the criminal element is running unchecked.

They would probably get a paid vacation and a large settlement because Paul is too fricking stupid to fire someone through proper channels.
