What do free agents in football do if they aren’t quite good enough to make a team

Only 9 spots per team I believe
And you can only be on the practice squad if you’ve been in the league less than like 5 seasons and haven’t been on a PS for more than like 2 years or some weird stipulation like that.
Pats had a guy who was on the PS for the max amount of time and then he bounced out the league because he couldn’t latch on to a real roster. He’s a coach now

They stay in shape and have conversations with teams or coaches they’ve had relationships with.
I’m pretty sure they know what teams are or will be interested. Then they hope they get the call to come workout in hopes of getting signed for the rest of the season.

I'm sure it depends who you are. Mo Wilkerson? Workout and wait for the call. Jeff Janis? Probably look for a career post-football.
ETA: Martavis Bryant?

Seems like personal trainer would be a good job.

If they want to continue to try to have a career they retain their agents and keep in shape. Many are allowed to work out at the college or high school facilities. The agent has incentive to keep contact going and communicate with the player and teams.

Speaking as someone that is a free agent and is not good enough to ever make a team, I eat and dick around on the Internet a lot.

Ryan Perrilloux
quote:
After going undrafted in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings invited Perrilloux to try out for the team. He was later signed by the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League. On January 13, 2011, Perriloux was signed to a reserve/future contract with the New York Giants. On September 3, 2011, he was cut from the Giants' roster. He was re-signed the same day to the practice squad. He was released from the practice squad on September 17, and was once more re-signed on September 23. Perrilloux was waived again on September 28. He was re-signed to the practice squad on October 8, but released again on October 12, only to be re-signed once more on October 17.[24] He was released from the practice squad again on November 2, 2011,[25] and signed to the practice squad again on November 11, 2011 before being released once again on November 26, 2011. He was re-signed during the 2012 offseason and was benched after being faulted for a preseason loss against Jacksonville Jaguars 32–31.[26] On January 22, 2014, Perrilloux was assigned to the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League. He threw for 936 yards and thirteen touchdowns while also rushing for nine scores for the VooDoo in the 2014 season.[27]
