Not even clicking, but I bet Wisconsin is way up there.

Those that partake heavily, what's the appeal?
It’s fun and is nice for relaxing after a hard day.

#7. I thought they'd be top 2. New Hampshire was #1. Louisiana just gets that reputation because of our lax attitudes towards alcohol.

I find drinking a few cocktails relaxes me. At my current age, 66, I no longer drink to such excess that I'm plastered. Doing that takes too much time to recover the next day and I learned that lesson long ago.
But for those who do over indulge from time to time, do yourself a favor and grab a bite to eat and a couple Aleve, Ibupropen, Anacin etc. before hitting the bed and you'll feel much better in the morning.
My heaviest drinking day of the year is usually Thanksgiving when I have a huge party at my house with as many as 25+ people. I fry a few turkeys and have several different casseroles and side dishes for my guests to enjoy and will start drinking Bloody Mary's before noon. Then don't stop between wine with the meal, cocktails afterwards etc.
But I'm so busy during the day that it really levels out and I don't get drunk, just pleasantly happy.

I was shocked to see them at #7, nothing to do besides freeze and drink in the winter

Also consider that it takes a heavy drinker 10 beers to feel about like you do after 2.
To feel sick? I haven’t vomited from alcohol in years, save for a hangover. It’s hilarious how much I puked on alcohol from sophomore year of high school to sophomore year of college.

Not sure how they ranked them. I'd assume alcohol sales per capita. To be fair South Louisiana would probably rank higher if it were a separate state.

It's something you can't really explain to people. But I found drinking heavily made me feel more normal than reality at times.

Because if I quit now the accumulated hangover would kill me.

The upper Midwest drinks way more than Louisiana in my experience

That was my experience as well. I'm sure weather and genetics/ancestry has something to do with it.

Wisconsin people go hard. We were out doing trails in the Jeep once in the San Juan mountains above Ouray. We met up with some crazies from Wisconsin way up in the mountains at around 11k feet elevation. They were pounding drinks and never seemed to get drunk.

There's something pleasant about pouring the last of a bottle of bourbon into a drink at midnight or so.
But then you have two choices.
Drink water and go to bed. Wake up feeling great.
Start drinking white cans, blue cans, or red cans until dawn. Which Will inevitabke lead to being curled up on the bathroom floor praying for death.

My wife was raised southern Baptist in Alabama and it was frowned upon (and still is) for the women in her family to drink. She snuck around glasses of wine at her mom's when she was like 40. Most of the men drink beer from noon until bedtime

A good alcoholic is a prepared alcoholic.

guess it depends on what you mean by "the high". In terms of how fricked up it can get you, it can hang with almost any hard drug. If you mean high as in euphoric, then I agree with you.
I meant high as in euphoric. Alcohol can taste good and is a fine social lubrication, but it doesn’t deliver the euphoria of other drugs.
