I often drink heavily on the weekend, but plan to stop. Has short-term impact on me physically, but has had major impacts on my mood / mental state at times.
I haven't drank at all in nearly a week and a half -- feel fantastic and really don't miss it. Really only drink in social settings to give me something to do, TBH, but did it excessively when I did.

Alcohol is really a crappy drug. The high is not that high and the hangovers are awful.

Plenty of other states drink more. They tend to be cold weather states too. Louisiana isn't even top 10.
