New Zealand gun owners begin turning over their weapons for money

Police said they paid more than 430,000 New Zealand dollars ($288,000) to 169 gun owners during the event. The money was paid directly into the bank accounts of gun owners.
The government has set aside more than $100 million to buy back weapons such as AR-15 style rifles, although many gun owners remain unhappy with the compensation on offer.
Under an amnesty, gun owners have until December to turn over their now-banned weapons.

The narrative that the Kiwis are willingly participating en masse is false. Typical media. The facts in the story are true except they fail to mention that out of an estimated 300,000 rifles less than 700 have been turned in.
No way the politicians want to admit that there is mass “disobedience” to one of their orders.

So not only did they sell their best means of self defense, they provided the government with bank account information linked to the names of known gun owners. It’s a beefed up registration list.
