In its first major violation of the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran announced that it has enriched uranium beyond the limits of the agreement. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reportedly carried through on his threat to increase Iran’s percent concentration of uranium-235 beyond the 3.67% threshold set forth. The level was set in the 2015 nuclear deal, which the U.S. withdrew from last year. Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, said that Iran had passed 4.5% enrichment over the weekend. Kamalvandi also threatened to restart a dismantled centrifuge or enrich uranium to 20% or more. Around 90% enrichment is typical for nuclear weapons.

Wonder if 74 still thinks the deal is "nuanced."

The problem is that Trump won’t do a damn thing. Iran getting a nuclear bomb is inevitable.

I thought Trump tore it up. This is the logical result of Trump’s action. Did anyone expect them to comply with a treaty that Trump already breached?

John Kerry and Obama are egging them on in hopes they start a war with the US.

We get to see how the EU reacts now. Do they side with the US and add additional sanctions or do they side with Iran and appease them with more economic loopholes

I would love to totally Westernize Iran then offer some CIA payback to the KSA thugs and their American stooges.

Iran has to do this in order to obtain any leverage for possible negotiations. In order to lift sanctions, the US will ask for a lot. Iran, from that point of view, will have to gain as much leverage as possible. There is some willingness to talk on both sides, but both sides have a maximalist approach, which assumes, in some ways, that the other actor is not rational. It would be a mistake for both parties to assume that neither is rational.

1) they were in compliance with terms of deal
2) trump backed the US out of the deal
3) iran no longer in compliance with deal

Not exactly shocking

And now the futility of trying to stop a country so rich from obtaining technology so old becomes apparent.

Who wants to go to war because they breached the nuke deal? Nobody.

I thought it was foolish for McCain to run on stopping them and it is foolish to pretend they can be stopped now if they are dead set on getting the bomb.

Even Pakistan has the bomb.

Iran would be absolutely foolish to attack either the USA or Israel with a nuclear weapon. If they have really wanted to do that they could have years ago. There is no question they had the oil to swap for a bomb.

Stopping Iran from getting the bomb is a no win goal for the USA.

They have just openly breached it now instead of doing it secretly. They are never going to stop trying to get nuclear weapons, no matter what kind of “deal” you make with them.

Same with North Korea

Well seeing as Trump threw the deal out, why would Iran continue to abide by it?

It makes no sense for them to abide by an agreement the other side has said is over.

Furthermore, it doesn’t take that long to enrich unranium to that level so it likely could have been undertaken since Trump withdrew from the deal.

So the US getting out of the deal was good foresight?

Who would have thought...

Iran today is proof that we are still dealing with the catastrophic frick up that was the Jimmy Carter Presidency.

In Iran, entire generations of women and girls are being abused today by radical islamists because Jimmy Carter was an absolute foolish moron that fell for a snow job from the aforementioned radical islamists in the Aytollahs and thought the Shah was a bad man when in reality he was the best we could get there and there was no such things as good enough for American standards in that part of the world.

If the Shah was able to hold on despite Carter's foolishness, Tehran would resemble something like Dubai or Doha today.

Jimmy Carter deserved every bit of the arse whipping Ronald Reagan gave him.
