Villains replacing heroes

We already saw this in Far From Home with Mysterio and what happened to Spider-Man as a result.

You're basing this on one movie?

I don't know about that, but personally I'd like to see something based on the early Thuderbolt stuff.

Problem is that I don't think they have established enough villains with appropriate powers to make it work. Plus, they'd have to kind of get rid of the heroes for a bit.

Instead of a 5th "Avengers" film, I bet the big team-up event is "Thunderbolts".

So you’re not saying this “villains takeover” theme would be the next Thanos level big bad, but instead that it would be the focus until the next avengers?

I wouldn’t mind it. Methuselah is right though. We need more of the villains established.

Perhaps the overall arc would be Dark Reinish and out of the Phase we’d get a Thunderbolts team of reformed bad guys.

From one movie my take is whatever the theme is it won't be as interesting.

The theme will be - “do you think RDJ will come back for $100 million per picture”?

The comic geeks have yet to realize that an overwhelming majority of movie goers did not grow up reading comic books

They will tire very quickly of the endless stream of little known characters in the coming MCU

I think it would be pretty interesting if they did a full movie that was totally focused on a villain. No happy ending or anything like that, but detail how a villain comes to be.

Wouldn't be hard. Every villain is the hero of his own story.

I agree with this premise

but not this part; in fact it's the opposite, potentially.

DC is stuck recycling Batman and Superman over and over, and people are getting tired of that. We know the tales, we're just getting new nuances.

Marvel is digging into their roster, and the result is you get fresh, new characters that are basic unknowns... but actually well developed. Look at GOTG as an example- they're cool, but I had no idea who they were.
Being a comic superhero, you "know" they're going to be able to do some bad-arse stuff. But beyond that, you're not sure what to expect. The result is greater entertainment, and way less criticism/disappointment if they don't do what YOU think they should be doing.

How do you explain the success of Guardians of the Galaxy? They were obscure even to comic book readers. Doctor Strange, Ant Man and Wasp were 2nd tier properties at best.

On the other hand, a well-known character like the Hulk got stuck with shitty movies until he was redone and rolled into the Avengers movies.

What does that tell us? People will watch high quality sci-fi action adventure movies. It has nothing to do with how familiar YOU are with the comic books.

People on this board have been giving Marvel Studios bad advice for years predicting the end of comic book movies, but they're not going away no matter how hard yall wish.

That's probably the key thing. Both GOTG films are more entertaining SF films than the current wave of Star Wars movies. Captain Marvel, for all the missed hype and poor casting, opened up a look at the Cree; probably the best part of that movie.

I'd love to see a good effort on the early Adam Strange stories. That's some great, pulp scifi potential.

You not only spelled "Kree" wrong, but I'm pretty sure you meant to say SKRULLS.

Your point is proven to be wrong.

The MCU was centered around Marvel's second tier and lower characters because they sold the rights to their most popular and well known characters to other studios years earlier.

Which ones fared better?

Spelling, yeah.

Didn't mean Skrulls. To me, it was more interesting to get a glimpse of the civilization that had warred with Xandar. A couple shots of one of their cities (including where Carol resided), some of their warships, a peek into one of their special forces teams, their manner of long-distance travel, and how they viewed the layout of the galaxy.

Made me want more of a look at Xandar, afterwards, since Xandar fought them to a stalemate.

Time for a reboot of fantastic four

Just for the lulz, they need to interact with Captain America
