Evaporative cooler here, runs most of the day, usually stays at around 71, and costs under $75/month on 2,200 sq/ft. Just a motor, belt, water pump, and media that I can easily fix on a breakdown. I love living in low humidity.

If I left it off, it'd be mid 80s for sure.

If it’s 102 outside the house will be in the mid 90’s

That’s what my beach house used to average, would take all night to cool it down but now I’ve got it automated and keep it at 80

I'm Irish and Swedish so I don't do well in the heat.

No shite. I was in Idaho near CDA this week and actually had to wear a jacket to walk dogs am of July 4. I can't take the South under 4k feet, from mid-May through Sept.

Why not?

If you're not using it, why does it matter?

Man, a cool summer breeze is a thing of beauty.

I think 65-68 is about as hot as I want it in the daytime.

We set ours to 78 when we are at work. It probably wouldn’t get much higher than that here if we turned it off tho

We had sodas pop in the cabinet at the beach house when left off for extended periods. My bill averages the same if I leave it at 80 when not there than when we used to shut it down, electronically monitoring your meter is cool, it would spike about $20 every time we showed up and had to cool the house down from the 90’s to 73. Only costs around $5 a month to keep it at 78-80 when not there

Utility company charges us a minimum regardless so it isn’t a big hit or really a cost at all to keep it conditioned to some degree year round and probably better for the carpet and interior any ways

I could live with it in the low to mid 80s without much humidity. Anything above that I'm not really a fan of.

I'm good up to about 75. Anything above that, no thanks.

When you get accustomed to cool summers, even that will seem hot. I've noticed my heat tolerance dropping the longer I've been here.

Maybe it's because I've lived near the gulf coast most of my life so 82 with low humidity doesn't seem hot to me. I lived in NYC for a while and it got hot there too, although not as humid.

Like Roger said, you get intolerant to heat pretty quickly. My mom lives in Miramar Beach and even though I visit in the spring, I can hardly stand to leave the house, much less go to the beach.

It's cheaper to set it and forget it.

This. I'm away for the week so turned my house up to 77. On way home now, I see it's a nice 69 and waiting for me.

about guarantee its an urban legend. Heat transefer is going to happen at a more rapid rate when your home is at 78 and the outside is at 95 than when your home is at 85 and the outside is 95. It might feel like you're saving money but your really not. Leave it on for comfort, not savings.

Also, none of you fuchs have ansered my question. Half of you cant even read the OP correctly.

Answer this honestly....Did you just move LA or did you just move out of mom & dad's house?

You should feel ashamed for asking this question. Then, not only do you pose this dumbass question, but you shite on legitimate responses which includes the humidity factor.

I always think there's no way I can encounter posts dumber than the previous day, yet you idiots continue to surprise me. I'm scared for what I'm gonna read tomorrow.

Keep turning off your AC and enjoying your hot arse house, you fricking idiot.
