They live between Santa Barbara and L.A. in a decent sized town where husband is in the Military. He has requested and been awarded a transfer for several reasons. Not the least of which is they can't save money and live in the People's Republic of California. They earn over $140K yr between the two and both were comfortable saving 10% month but no more. They have one child and live in a modest 1500 square foot home that would be $140K in Georgia but cost them $650K in Camarillo, Ca. a couple of years ago. The mortgage payment on their shack is close to $4800 a month on a 15 year mtg I believe. But it may be longer. Scary! Thank you Democrats.

What tax law increased their mtg payment?

They’re paying $57,600 a year on a mortgage, and their pre-tax income is ~140k? Add to that a kid and saving 10%.
I’m not saying it can’t be done, I’m just a little surprised by those numbers.
And a military guy is going to put the better part of a million dollars into a house.

I would say being ordered to live there is the only reason anyone would stay in California.

Calexit gaining steam. When everyone working leaves who's paying the bill.

Within ten years, blue states are going to be agitating for "transfer payments" from successful ones to balance their budgets.

They are paying $160/day for their house? That’s more then some hotels. Crazy

Need that extra money to remove more "whitey" featured art like the George Washington painting in San fran

I find it very interesting that leftist mecca San Francisco has virtually priced poor people out of houses with some of the most expensive housing costs in the country.
I think they are at the top with Seattle and Manhattan.

Didn’t New Hampshire or Vermont just pass such a law?

I believe Connecticut passed a “mansion” tax and New Jersey is considering it.
If you sell your home over a certain price and move out of state, you owe an additional 10% tax over the normal amount.
Seems unethical to me.

I am guessing the downvotes are coming from people who have never lived in Cali.

Hope they're enjoying paying for Pablo and his family of illegals

was it some change in statewide law, or a local property tax issue?
If the latter, was there some change in the local ordinance or rate, or did the valuation of the home simply increase?
If the latter, are the Dems to blame for increases in property values?
It was an entirely reasonable question.

I know some associates that are considering moving there and I tell them that sure the beaches, mountains and weather are pretty nice to look at but they don't pay the bills.
California is just like any other state and place in the world where you have to work to make a living in, to have a good home and raise a family and it is one of the worst places in America to do that given how it's being taxed and regulated to death.

trying to find any minor reason to blame other than Dem policies.
Everyone is well aware of how Cali likes to tax residents to death and redistribute it to the poors and environmental programs that have a horrible cost to benefit ratio.

Yet the Kardashians, Cher, Rosie, all living in mansions and all of the wealthy Hollywood celebs have two shits to give.
