If you want to be the best team, you need to beat the best teams. Alabama is one of those.

Means more than very little.

We need to get by Texas first. Lose that game and playoffs are pretty much out of the question because I doubt we can win out from there.

Just because there are those who think beating bama is ALL that matters doesn't mean it matters little

the odds of two teams from the same conference making the playoffs is low. Yes, it's happened before, but it's a long shot.

We need to win the West and win the SECCG to make sure we get a playoff bid. Conceding the Bama game is pathetic.

This is the mentality that the O pumpers have built for the fan base. It’s pathetic and embarrassing

Well that's just silly.

It's a fair bet that in any given year, we potentially gain, or lose a couple of recruits based on our performance in this game.

It's not like we're playing some school that isn't in our own recruiting back yard

Well, firstly, Bama is a West opponent. That game means a lot. With all that said, the Bama game is not a deal breaker. We need to stop treating it like a live or die case. We are more than capable of beating the other 11 teams on our schedule. This post Bama collapse that we see all too often needs to fricking stop.

How could someone say this?

It's a division game. It's at least as important as 5 other games on your schedule.

Don’t be ridiculous. Now that all conferences have a championship game, the committee will do whatever they can to avoid putting 2 SEC teams in the playoff. A loss to any other SEC opponent in a year where we beat Bama to get to Atlanta and win there is better than losing to Bama and not winning the conference. The only way we get to Atlanta without beating Bama is if Bama drops 2 SEC games. I think it’s been a decade since that happened.

It means a hell of a lot. It's a conference/division game. And when the Tigers lose to them, while winning small moral victories, I start posting on the scoreboard and get the banhammer for 8 or 9 months.

It only means something if we beat em, so yeah I agree it means nothing don't understand why this is getting so many downvotes

bullshite. You have to beat those guys to win the west. You have to beat them on the field if you want to beat them in recruiting too.

LSU fired a coach because of his lack of success against Alabama, even though he had more success against Alabama than anyone else. So, I would say the game means a hell of a lot to the LSU fanbase. That being said - I agree that a loss to Alabama does less harm to LSU's national championship chances than any other loss.

please tell me what you're smoking. We aren't going to win the SECWest if our only conference loss is to Bama and they are undefeated. AND...there is also no guaranteeing that if that is our only loss that we make the playoff. We don't get the same mulligans or passes that Bama does.

So yes, the Bama game means a lot. It means everything. Not only for winning the division, but for ending the streak, and putting out a statement that finally says, "we're back."
