We usually vacation in Orange Beach because of the small crowds and family atmosphere. It's also a convenient location.

Navarre Beach looks to not be as convenient to restaurants and shopping but is it family friendly? Less of a party crowd than PCB or Destin?

Any other info. about Navarre Beach is appreciated.

Quieter, less trashy.

AKA perfect for families.

ETA: easy drive to Gulfarium Marine Park in Fort Walton to take the kids for a half a day.

I was in Jaws 2 when they filmed it at the holidome in Navarre.

Back then it was a oasis. Nothing there but that hotel. I'm sure it's better than the Bama beaches

if you think OB is nice, you'll think you're on the French Riviera in Navarre

Navarre Beach doesn't have much, it's much more quieter and less packed than Orange Beach. With that said, I rather it.

You can go to the state park and get completely away from anyone else and have the beach to yourself.

Navarra Beach is awesome. Close enough to Destin to go check out touristy stuff, but quiet and not crowded.

Take the kids to Big Kahunas water park - loved that place as a kid.

Don't go to Gulf Shores. We will be taking that bitch over in a couple of weeks.

I find it interesting that there are always a few LSU fans who bash the AL Gulf Coast. I see a lot of your brethren there every summer repping purple and gold.

Also, the Ft. Morgan area is a great place to stay. Much more secluded (mostly beach houses except for a couple of condo complexes) but only a 15 minute drive back to Gulf Shores. Only “complaint” about it is that you can see natural gas rigs, but they are all several miles off of the coast.

I really like Navarre Beach. Just west of there is a long stretch of completely undeveloped beachfront. It’s a preserve/park: Gulf Islands National Seashore. Pack up some chairs and an ice chest and pick your spot. You can find complete isolation... your own private beach.

It’s like that almost all the way to Pensacola Beach.

Ft. Walton and PCB are easy drives from Navarre.

Juana’s Pagodas is a good spot for cocktails and casual dining.

Sand and water just as nice as Destin but nothing to do on that side of the bridge outside of the beach.

If you're looking for a quiet beach and minimal traffic, you will love it.

I love Navarre. I really like how it's separated from the main drag. It keeps it nice & quite.

The only problem is that the seaweed can sometimes get stuck at the shore for days at a time. Someone told me that they did some dredging after Ivan to rehab the sand dunes, and that caused a sort of bowl effect in the water immediately off the shore. It can be pretty thick when it gets stuck like that, and of course there are plenty of jelly fish that get stuck with it.

Pensacola is really nice, particularly the eastern side of the island, which is very quiet. I've never really had that problem with seaweed there.

If you’re looking for a quiet family friendly place, you might consider Saint George Island, Florida. The main drawback is there are no real little kid recreational activities other than the beach that I know of.

Beaches are probably the most beautiful I’ve been to and there are restaurants and a small grocery store on the island. Apalachicola, 20 minutes away, has good restaurants and a few bigger grocery stores as well as shops.

I love that place. If you think Orange beach is uncrowded, you’ll think SGI is deserted.

Heading to Navarre tomorrow. Beaches are significantly nicer than OB, but there isn’t really anything to do outside of the beach.

Stayed at Navarre Beach for the first time at the end of April. Enjoyed it more than Orange Beach. It also has the longest pier in Florida, For $7 a day you can access the pier and do all the fishing you want....the $7 includes the fishing license. Caught a few Spanish Mackerel.
