Pleasant Grove police Lt. Danny Reid told AL.com at the time of the shooting that “the investigation showed that the only true victim in this was the unborn baby.”

“It was the mother of the child who initiated and continued the fight which resulted in the death of her own unborn baby,” Reid said.
The can of worms has opened in Alabama. Not sure what to make of this one.

Stupid prosecutor. The shooter fired five shots into the pregnant woman's abdomen. That's targeting the baby, not acting in self defense.

I don't get what you mean by can of worms though. This is unrelated to the abortion law.

If the baby daddy punched her in the stomach to get out of paying child support, and it worked, would you demand that he be charged only with simple assault?

If the pregnant woman had been with her sister and her sister got killed instead of the baby, would you call it a can of worms?

The instigator of the crime was charged. The person the DA believed to have defended their self was not.

It’s not rocket science. No need to try to find a baby to halve. Literally or metaphorically.

Don't bring a baby to a gun fight. Do you think pregnant women should be allowed to attack others with out consequences?

She started the fight and continued it so she is responsible for her unborn baby’s death.

Duh.

I don't really disagree with this, but this is the exact kind of case that is going to make the majority of the country revolt and side with the Democrats on abortion.

1.) What are fetal homicide laws?
2.) What are felony murder laws?
3.) You're an idiot.

This is not a new concept. A murder occurred during the commission of a crime. The murder on demand crowd want to make an issue of it, but the truth is, had the pregnant woman not given someone reason to defend themselves, the baby would most likely be alive.

I don’t get the manslaughter charge for the mother...maybe child endangerment.

What can of worms? Someone died during the commission of a crime and whomever is responsible for the crime is responsible for the death. Courts have long heals this to be standard - rob a bank and the guard shoots your coconspirator then you, not the guard, are charged with murder.

clear letter of the law description of manslaughter

even a first year law student should be able to get a slam dunk conviction in this case
