A woman whose unborn baby was killed in a 2018 Pleasant Grove shooting has now been indicted in the death.

Marshae Jones, a 27-year-old Birmingham woman, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on a manslaughter charge. She was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Though Jones didn’t fire the shots that killed her unborn baby girl, authorities say she initiated the dispute that led to the gunfire. Police initially charged 23-year-old Ebony Jemison with manslaughter, but the charge against Jemison was dismissed after the grand jury failed to indict her.

quote:

“The investigation showed that the only true victim in this was the unborn baby,’’ Pleasant Grove police Lt. Danny Reid said at the time of the shooting. “It was the mother of the child who initiated and continued the fight which resulted in the death of her own unborn baby.”

quote:

Reid said the fight stemmed over the unborn baby’s father.

Shot in self defense. The women, being pregnant, knowingly placed herself and the unborn child in harms way. Don’t agree with the charge but see the logic behind it.

If the guy was shooting in self defense, it would be no different than attacking someone and having your kid in the fight with you.

I picked the news story up from a liberal friend on facebook. They didn't know who to be mad at, or whether to call the fetus a child.

Similar to the first response in this thread. It sucks, but I see the logic behind the charge.

Hell, they put her and the shooter's cases in front of a grand jury. They only indicted the instigator.

Hank will be along shortly to correct the terminology.

State of the world we live in. Had this happened in California there would be no charges for any of it.

I see it too, but it’s poor logic.

I don’t like the “chain of events” guilt that’s become prevalent lately.

The lady didn’t shoot her own belly, she can’t be blamed for the baby being shot.

She endangered the welfare of her child that resulted in it's death. Perhaps baby momma shouldn't be getting into physical altercations that result in the death of her child.

So an expectant mother jumping into the Lion exhibit in the zoo and losing her baby in the attack isn't responsible?

I don't agree with the decision, but logically, she is at fault (at least to degree) imho.

Don't bring a baby to a gunfight, or something like that.

Under Alabama law, the charge makes sense. Whether Alabama law itself makes sense is an entirely different question.

Yeah, it's kind of a mind-bender for them. Way too many moving parts on the identity politics spectrum

Lighten up, Francis.

Also.... can you try to keep it down, I'm getting a bit of a headache.
