For a 16 foot boat trailer? Currently have a Reese store and tow lock kit on now. Heard they’re garbage though. As well as a cable lock around the tire.

i just watched a youtube video on the reese and yes it looks like garbage, I purchased a similar looking lock form where i bought my trailer in Gonzales, all the weak areas pointed out on the reese are not the same on mine, however i do not know the name brand. it has a vending machine type lock which I understand is fairly difficult to pick, it is made of powder coated steel vs cast aluminium , and just looks a whole lot more heavy duty

looks more like this

A slip out trailer tongue is pretty hard to beat. Not a whole lot of thieves running around with a trailer tongue in the bed of their truck.

I have a swing away tongue and remove the pin. Most thieves will just move to the next one .

nothing helps, it takes about 30 seconds to use a reciprocating saw to cut the flip lever off and slap on a spare after dropping it onto their bumper and they gone.

the only real theft protection is a chain and a master lock put through trailer frame and a solid object. that slows them down a good bit and they wont usually go to all that trouble to bring large heavy bolt cutters so they move to easier targets

I do that as well. If I know its going to sit for more than a week or so, I also take the bolt out of the hinge and sit the tongue on the frame.

i can cut thru most every trailer lock within a minute with a battery powered dremel and cutoff wheel except this one. Connor nickel lock

The nickel content destroys the cutoff wheels from friction.

Takes about the same amount of effort to cut through a chain, FWIW

Well where I live it would be impossible to it through anything without drawing a ton of attention. Looking for something that can’t be picked or jigged like that lock I mentioned in op. Most of the recommendations in here should work.

I have had multiple boats left out in the open with no locks just waiting to be taken. No luck yet

Just take the tire off. A cordless grinder will cut through any "super duper secure" lock pretty quickly. I know this, because I'm always losing the keys or cutting ones off that the pins freeze

Eta: Takes about 15 seconds to cut them off

those will snap right off right at the notch for the lock to grab onto with just a piece of pipe and its 100% silent so you can maybe even do it with people around and they likely wont notice your stealing LINK

it really is one of those things where just about anything you try keeps honest people from messing with it but a person intent on stealing has little trouble getting it if they really want it

You can knock that one off with a hammer in about 3 minutes.
