For me, Alex Bregman tops my list, I think any list of this type needs to begin and end with him. He is not the star that he is portrayed to be. His stats scream above average, not star. Not even hitting .260 on the year.

Bryce Harper comes in as well, he is not living up to his contract at all, and led the Phillies to a home sweep vs. the Marlins. His WAR is only 0.2 right now.

Lastly I think you have to go with Kris Bryant. Like Bregman he gets treated as a star, but his stats only say he is above average.

What gave that away? 14 AB's with 2 hits only and 1 BB in the last Yankee/Stros series?

My pick is A-Aron Judge

I would have strongly disagreed with you 2 years ago. But its almost seemed as if he plateaued.

Average is not the only stat that defines a star. Bregman has an excellent OBP, OPS, and SLG. He is also top 20 in RBI and top 20 in HR. From a production standpoint for a team he is a star. Also, I love how defense is forgotten when defining a star. He is an incredible left side defender. In short, batting average no longer defines "star", and to say he is just not that good is laughable.

He is an elite defensive 3B and is on pace to hit 45 HR this year, all while walking more than he strikes out.

The .260 avg is a function of a very unlucky .235 BABIP which is due for a correction.

Bregman is a star.

I guess there are more players above him you can say

But I don’t think he’s one of the best in the league (as what he’s being paid as)

I think judge is good when healthy

But now it’s starting to show that he doesn’t stay healthy much

Maybe?

Dude clearly screams good but not great, glad you brought it to our attention. To think, we could have had Dansby Swanson. Thanks Luhnow.

Stanton when healthy is a pretty damn good player.

He's 4th among active players in Slugging, and 6th in OPS.

He has the 17th highest WAR among active position players, and most (except for Trout) of the players ahead of him are veterans near the end of their career. Pujols, Miggy, Cano, Votto, Longoria, Tulo, etc.

Giancarlo is a great player when healthy lol. For me Bryce Harper is is elite in some categories but they’re many players I’d have before him.
