he would have led the league in WAR by a large margin last year if he didnt miss 40 games
Trout played in more games last year than Mookie did

But seriously, you WAR disciples need to explain why the Angels are always so goddamn mediocre. Are they a 95 loss team without him?
It’s ridiculously stupid to measure a baseball player by team success. On average, Trout accumulates about 11% of his team’s total plate appearances over the course of an entire season. It’s impossible for him or any other player to have a significant impact on a team’s win-loss record. Imagine if LeBron was only allowed to create shots for himself and his teammates once every five possession. Or what about Tom Brady and Drew Brees being forced to alternate snaps with the other two QBs on the roster? Instead of taking 60-65 snaps a game, they can only be on the field for 20-25 plays. Their impact on the game would be greatly limited. That’s what Mike Trout has to deal with.

And that’s not even going into the fact that he has to rely on pitching
The Angels pulled an LSU to start the season and didn’t even have a LHP in the pen. Like how the frick does that happen

The Mets were that way recently, and may still be. When they played the Cardinals a couple weeks ago, their only LHP in the bullpen blew a game and they DFA'd him about 15 minutes later. Spent the rest of the series all right.

It varies, but it’s generally accepted that position players peak somewhere between their age 27-30 season. Trout is 27. So, it’s very likely, however unlikely it seems, that Trout still hadn’t peaked. Barring a career ending injury or an Andruw Jones type fall off, we may be watching the greatest baseball player of all time.

What about his desire to win? Why stay with a mediocre organization that has zero shot at winning anything in his career.

If you know Trout’s personality he is not a flashy guy, doesn’t like attention and just wants to play baseball. He was never going to go to a big market to play, aside from possibly Philly.
It’s clear he has loyalty to LAA for drafting him or whatever it is, who knows. But I can only assume that the front office has committed to invest over the span of his career.
They already got Ohtani, paid Justin Upton and they’re still paying Pujols and Hamilton I believe. It isn’t an overnight change.

Including this year they still owe him 3 years and $87 million.

I thought this board admired loyalty in the face of lack of team accomplishments

I don’t think it’s a big mystery. The team around him isn’t good and one baseball player can’t make a LeBron like impact.
Yep. In basketball LeBron can probably have a 40 win impact over an 82 game schedule. A baseball player is doing really good if they have a WAR of 5 over a 162 game schedule.

This is why guys are no longer getting long term deals when they're in their 30s

There is nothing about Trout that says greatest of all time. Nothing. A-Rod, Bonds before the Roids, Griffey, Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, Teddy Ballgame. That’s your inner circle.
Sabermetrics are how the Mike Greenbergs of the world can pretend like they know a damn thing about baseball.

And the counting stats? Home runs? Runs? RBIs? Griffey also spent his prime with steroid users while remaining clean.
Trout is the king of empty stats at the plate. Down 6-2 in the 8th? Here comes a double! Down 4-0 in the 7th? I’ll walk and get a steal! We’re down 8-3 in the 9th and I’m 0-2 with a walk? Well here’s a good time to hit a solo shot!
