This is unequivocally untrue.

I have no knowledge of Yang wanting to implement a system wherein the government rewards it's citizens for doing good deeds. But even if he is, that's not what the Chinese SCS is.

The Chinese system practically monitors your every move and then calculates a score based on those moves. That score dictates with whom you can do business and has a ton of negative implications as a result.

I had no clue what you were talking about so I went to Yang's website and he's rather transparent about his idea.

quote:

The government’s goal should be to drive individuals and organizations to find new ways to improve the standards of living of individuals and families on these dimensions. In order to spur development, the government should issue a new currency – the Digital Social Credit – which can be converted into dollars and used to reward people and organizations who drive significant social value. This new currency would allow people to measure the amount of good that they have done through various programs and actions.

That's essentially a day to day tax credit for doing good.

I really hope nobody comes across your post and believes it. I would say you're misinformed, but I think ignorant is a more apt description. Yang is more capitalist than most people who frequent this website.

Regardless, Yang won't win. He's ahead of his time. Definitely a step in the right direction despite his bright eyed world views.

Lol that’s like 500 people.

Probably closer to a thousand, but he’s drawing out bigger rallies than any other Democrats save for maybe Bernie, and Bernie is dropping like a stone in a deep lake. He’s drawing bigger crowds than Biden, and everyone in this country knows who he is. What’s going to happen when he gets on that debate stage and the only person left standing is Buttigieg? His rallies will get even bigger. For someone that no one had heard of at the start of the year, that’s saying a lot.

Also over 2,500 people showed up for his New York rally. Trump had fame to proceed him, but I don’t see Joe Biden pulling out these numbers: Newsweek

The MSM will never back him early enough in the primaries to gain momentum over the preferred candidates. The same reason the Uni-Party didn’t want trump will be the same reason they fight him.

He doesn’t have the balls to stand up to the MSM like Trump, so he will fold under pressure when Warren, Biden, Booker, etc start attacking him and the journalist arm of the Democratic Party carries water for them instead of him.

No it's not! He is on record, and I have linked to it.

And the App that yang wants will monitor your every move.

Now you just stated you had NO knowledge of him wanting the government to rewards it's citizens for doing good deeds... Here is your Quote:

Then you quote his website:

This new currency would allow people to measure the amount of good that they have done through various programs and actions.

Because what I stated was true.

Why don't you ask anybody on this board if they want the gov deciding if they want MORE gov monitoring and a system in place to "grade" you social behavior in any form or fashion

Posters will hate that comment but it's the truth.

Thankfully there was enough voters aware that the left was trying to make a mockery of him.

He simply resonated with voters because he chose to fight for what the right wants.

Ron Paul was also very popular and raised a good amount of grassroots money but never caught on as a serious candidate. I don’t think he has enough mainstream ideas to win over the dem base.

I listened to Ben Shapiros Sunday special with him and he has some pretty far out there ideas like universal income and things that our economy can’t support.

Yes because at the beginning of my post I had no clue what you were talking about and then decided to look it up mid-post.

Again, no it will not and you have no way to substantiate that claim.

You're use of emojis and lack of ability to differentiate between these two systems tell me you're either really old or really young. I'm going to go with the former.

OR perhaps I understand a social grading system in place will lead to the government controlling thought and action or face punishment.

Or perhaps you have a much larger fear.

You need therapy.

This is a fair critique here. I hoped that he and his son Rand would resonate more within the party, but they didn’t get far. I hope for the sanity of the Left, Yang gets a bit more traction than he did.

Certainly agree, I don't care if you agree with his policies or not. Having a technology driven presidential candidate bringing up problems that need addressing and no one is, is a great thing.

I have no idea if UBI is a good idea or not, I have built machine algorithms and understand their power at replacing traditional jobs. The concept of UBI is at least worth checking out. Sooner rather than later.

I’ve been reading this JJ vs OML debate with great interest, so I looked at Yang’s site to see for myself. Here is the full text of his “social credit” plan:

quote:

Volunteering at a local community center. Mentoring an at-risk youth. Starting a book club. Helping your friend recover from drug addiction. There are many actions that create positive social utility that are currently uncompensated.

Enter Modern Time Banking. Volunteer activity and community engagement would be tracked by an app and seeded, initially, by the government. After that, local administrators would oversee the program. You could earn time banking points through:

Volunteering at a local shelter
Participating in a town fair
Coaching little league
Fixing a neighbor’s appliance
Working with those recovering from opiate addiction
Tutoring a local student and a range of other activities that make your community stronger.

We’ve seen the power of these awards systems to drive behavior through online communities, “free sandwich” punch cards, and special status (e.g. Yelp Elite, Foursquare mayors, etc.). Signing up for an account would allow you to track your running tally, along with an “unspent” total. As noted above, you could offer time banking points to a neighbor for watering your plants or taking your mail in while you’re away. But there could also be specific promotions where you could trade in your points for special experiences, such as tickets to a local ball game or meeting with a government or civic leader.

LINK

Look, I’m all for outside the box thinking, but this is like something a high school kid would come up with for a school project. I mean, there are so many holes in this plan that I don’t even know where to start.

Or perhaps I want the Federal gov to not have a system in place that grades people. Period.

To be fair, his UBI is intended to replace existing forms of welfare.

His concerns about automation and what it's doing to the workforce are pragmatic, but with how pathetic most Americans are on their own in preparation for same, it's hard to be anything but indifferent to their eventual structural employment.
