Seems to me that it is, since the student is receiving a benefit based solely on his/her race and which is denied to anyone not of the same race. Yet, incredibly, the practice still exists in America.

What say ye?

Not if it's a private university, but absolutely yes if it's a public university.

It should not be allowed. The underlying assumption is that non-whites need extra help. That's okay, except that there are just as many poor white kids out there who need financial assistance too.

White kids from poorer families are at a huge disadvantage.

Not racist by definition, but definitely racial profiling.

Not quite as racist as not letting a race attend a university, but it hasn't been that long, relatively, since that was pretty common

You just happen to be living during the "Sorry about that" era

Not even sure what the next era is, though

I am sure when Whites are the minority in America they will be provided the same privileges. Right?

University scholarships should be based on merit.
However, big donors should be able to be as prejudiced as they wish in regards to who gets a scholarship from their endowment.
The worst I've heard on race is one that only goes to a black applicant who has served time in prison for killing a white.
The weirdest is Duke U. Scholarships for people who can prove they are a direct descendant of a Huguenot.

Is it racist for the US Government to decide black people should have different lower intellegnce standards than white people?

It depends who gives the money. If it's a private individual, they can give the money to whomever they choose. If it's taxpayer money, then it should not be based race.

ETA: misunderstood the question...yes, it's racist.

Honestly, I think the market will regulate this out. If universities are letting in unqualified candidates, it'll make their university worse. Let market forces destroy bad practices.

Of course it is racism.

But racism is a merely tool that is deployed by various groups and governments on a regular basis to further their goals.

Being only a classification tool, racism is amoral.

The underlying goal is where moral judgment can be made.

I'm a Libertarian so my question would be is this a gov't funded university or a private one? If former, then it's not acceptable. If the latter, then it's none of my business.

See, that was easy.

It is racist.

Everyone should be treated equally.
