The thought is to spend about 10 days (2 travel) 8 in Spain.
Would like to include Mallorca with either Madrid or Barcelona.
Thoughts?

Barcelona. Definitely not Madrid. Madrid is personally one of the least favorite cities in Europe I have been to.
We LOVED Sevilla as well. Highly highly recommend.

Second Sevilla .. Madrid is very nice but it is certainly a tourist area mostly. Plenty of nice things to see and do depending on your purpose.

Thanks, guys. While Seville seems like a great choice...was hoping to stay somewhat close to Mallorca, as to try to minimize the travel. Would Seville still work?

Doesn't appear since Mallorca is an island. From Barcelona you are still looking at 9 hours. What about including Ibiza?

Feel like I'm too old for Ibiza...

You could always go to Bayonne France (from Barcelona) it is very nice, but if you want to see more of Spanish culture stick with Madrid or another coast town such as Tarragona or Cartagena

I’m the exact opposite, Madrid is one of my favorite cities in the world.
Sevilla is awesome as well.
Toledo is a fun day trip if you are in Madrid, especially if you like architecture.

I say Barcelona. But if you go to Madrid visit the Prado museum if you have any interest at all in art.

To each his own but I just don’t see how that’s possible. I really really did not like it at all despite having some great meals.

Another vote for Barcelona. San Sebatian and the Basque country is great too but more difficult to get to.

Fun Bunch and I seem to be traveling in the same areas the past couple of years, and his impressions are always the opposite of mine. . I didn't love either place but I preferred Madrid.

Did Barcelona back in March. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Check out the Gaudi houses. If nothing else visit the Casa Battlo. Go see the Segrada Familia. Walk the Ramblas. The tour of Camp Nou was actually very cool. Eat the tapas, go to the open market and indulge on some Iberico ham. Hire a tour guide to give you a walking tour of the gothic section.

Just a heads up this weeks New York Times travel section did a 36 hours in Mallorca.
Spain is such a vastly different country from one region to another but I do prefer the coastal areas. Barcelona and Mallorca could be a good trip. It’s about a 30 minute flight between the two which you can find pretty cheap.

Sitges if you want to get away from the crowded beaches in Barcelona. I would skip Madrid and visit San Sabastion instead.

How old are you? And what do you like to do on vacation?
People will crap on Madrid for Barcelona, but I liked Madrid a lot. Never been to Barcelona yet, but Madrid was safe, clean, walkable, and plenty of sites to see. Architecture and landscaping is very nice to view. Wouldn’t spend more than a couple days there tho.

Barcelona is probably my favorite city in the world

Consider Seville in place of Madrid. Barcelona and Seville are connected by high speed train and it only takes about 5 hrs.
Seville is the highlight of Spain and shouldn’t be missed if possible imho

If I could afford it, I would stay in the Paradors.
If I had the time, I'd redo a trip we did a decade ago last week of November, first week of December. I'd go to Gerona, one of the most beautiful small cities I've ever seen in fall. Then slowly work my way down to Tarragona, which I love. From walking evenings on la Rambla to visiting their museum for Roman relics, and then fussing with the local trasnportation system to get to the two leveled aquaduct to the nw of downtown to seeing the Rosemary growing as weeds with Thyme at the base of every Rosemary bush in abandoned fields.
Read Braudel's The Mediterranean to get a feel for the history. Drink Dr. Mueller white wine. Buy the local dry sausage that tastes so good that the smell doesn't matter.
So few tourists that you can fell like a local.
