Are dads’ essential DIY skills in decline? According to new research, millennial dads are less capable than their own dads when it comes to everyday DIY fixes, preferring to rely on professional help instead.

Millennial dads are less likely than their boomer counterparts to be able to change a car tire on the side of the road, unblock a toilet or sink, reset a tripped circuit breaker or even open a stuck pickle jar with their hands.

My baby boomer grandfather thought he had great skills, in reality they sucked pretty bad.

Because it's more manly and feels better to do it yourself. It's also cheaper.

Sixty-one percent would rather hang out with their children than spend that time on DIY, while 49% of millennial dads say they’ve done better than their own dad at spending quality time with their kids.

That is actually quite believable.

i'm not going to lie and say i'm super handy, but it's pretty pathetic when people can't figure out things like these":

My dad is pretty worthless as a handy man.

I do as much of the maintenance and a few other projects on my 911 as I can given the equipment that I have.

I've done a few things around the house. If it's something that takes more than a weekend or two I'd rather just hire someone. They'll likely do a better job than me in a quarter of the time.

I make the mistake of calling pops for a DIY project a few times a year. I always remember about 15 minutes after he gets to my house that I would have to learn what is needed and teach it to him before he can effectively help.

How Gen X is stuck in the middle of all that is astonishing to me. On one hand, they were raised by boomers and made out great. On th other, they raised the back end of millennials and gen z who don’t look so hot. How does that happen
