quote:And Tatum is 40% in the NBA and had a season of 43.4% (and has an additional year on his rookie deal).
Ingram was a 40% 3pt shooter in college , has a season of 38% in the nba, and long stretches of good shooting last year (36% over last 25g). Does it really need to slap people in the face that he will be an above average shooter?

No one is saying Tatum can’t stroke

I like Tatum slightly better as I laid out on page 3. It’s close though. Certainly not head & shoulders, which is why I’m defending Ingram

Tatum is a better player, has one more year on his contract, and isn’t coming off a serious injury.
It’s like the difference between a new Cadillac and a Lincoln that is one year older and has gotten into a few fender benders.

You mean he’s a better playmaker?

The team was though. You literal have a guy saying he doesn't want to be on the team with Kyrie next year. The team was a mess and nobody had any defined roles.
Kyrie has so much estrogen running through his veins I don’t know why anyone would want to be teammates with him.
He’s like an estrogenic woman with a penis. He is a one-man dumpster fire, and I use the term “man” very loosely.

Ingram is about to get paid bigly, maybe overpaid considering his uncertain health issues.
That alone puts Tatum way over Ingram, if it were close.

And if Tatum never improves or worse, regresses even more next year?l, he’s still going to demand a big contract, it’s the nature of the nba bubba

I"m normally not a fan of your contrarian ways, but i completely agree with you here.
And as Dante said, Tatum may be the best asset in a return, but the Lakers have 2, 3, and 4 imo. I value the Lakers #4 pick as well as a Suns/Bulls pick that Lonzo may fetch us this year over the Memphis pick, by a very wide margin. the odds of that Memphis pick landing better than 6 is slim.

I could at least talk myself into the Lakers deal, especially if Lonzo and Kuz are flipped for picks.
Pretty much the only way I’d even consider it.

Next years draft is supposedly much stronger than this one
Wouldn't you rather have say the 8th-9th pick in that draft than 6 in this one?

That's not how it works though.
and if that was an absolute, then i'd rather the 6th pick without a doubt.
Next years draft is always supposedly better.
I know i can have the 6th pick this year. I may get the 8 pick next year, or the 10th, or the same 8th pick in two years. With the changes made to the lottery, assuming you can get a top 4 pick b/c you suck isn't a given.

Agree to disagree but I'd rather take a gamble in the 2020 or 21 drafts than this mediocre crop

Tatum.
From Day 1, Tatum was thrown into competition. He was on a playoff team. With Kylie Irving, Gordon Hayward, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, And Terry Rozier being guards he had to battle with for playing time and stats. Yeah he was gonna get his chance because he was the number 3 pick, but He wasn’t looked to be the franchise saver, but just another piece to a championship team. Then at the end of her first year, he had to become one of the first options, because others were hurt. He excelled and was a game away from the NBA finals. Then he was forced back into a smaller role this year and it just didn’t work.
Ingram has had multiple years to lead a bad team, and has not been very good.
Ingram is a great player, but I think Tatum can be better.

Agreed. Even winning the 4th pick, they still could only offer the 4th best trade package of all teams interested. I'd still have Boston, New York and the Clippers over them, in that order.
Their best two assets are a player we have to really work hard to sell each other on and the 4th overall pick, in a 3 man draft class. Unless they can find a way to get the #2 pick from Memphis, I'm not interested at all.
As for the OP, Tatum vs Ingram isn't even worth debating. Even the posters making a case for Ingram prefer Tatum.

But i think the point is that yes Tatum is the better prospect, but how much better? I think that's the debate.
So Tatum is better, and in the NBA, you want to get the best player in a trade more often than not.
But is Tatum that much better than Ingram that the Boston Package of say Tatum/Memphis pick/Smart/14th/20th pick better than Ingram, #4, #6, Kuzma, Hart, or possibly Ingram/Morant?
I like Tatum, but i do'nt see him becoming an All NBA guy. He might make an all star team or two, but i could also see Ingram doing that too.
The #4 and #6 pick are very likely going to be better than the Memphis pick, both of them. Those picks could be busts, or could be all stars, or All-NBA players. One package gives us two chances, one gives us one.
I think we can find a 3rd team to trade Kuzma to and get good value on it, better than Marcus Smart, even though i like Smart.
The late teen 1st round picks don't mean much to me. Sure they are nice to have, but it's just ancillary stuff in this trade.
So it really comes down to Tatum/Memphis pick vs Ingram/#4/#6. I lean towards the Lakers package by a good bit.

quote:To me, Tatum is much better than Ingram and does not have a blood clot issue. I think Smart brings a lot more than Kuzma in a trade. Players like Kuzma are a dime a dozen and Smart is 1st team NBA defensive team. The picks are a big question mark. So, there is the advantage of knowing the picks you get versus the unknown of the Memphis pick. There also is the fact that this draft is seen as much weaker than next year's is supposed to be. I lean towards the Boston package (would be a runaway with Brown included).
