Multiple NBA teams have had conversations about phasing the term "owner". At least two teams have already made the switch.

The issue gained momentum in 2018 when Draymond Green argued against the term on LeBron James' television show "The Shop."

You have to admit it's pretty awkward when a black man refers to the principal in charge as "my owner" like Antonio Gates when he said "My relationship with my owner has been phenomenal."
Do people really say "my owner", or do they say "the owner".
What's dumb is the owner owns the organization. They don't own the players. Slave owners owned the rights to the entire life of the slaves.

They "OWN" your arse as long as you have a contract with the organization. That is unless you don't want to get paid, then you can just kick rocks and do as you please.

Meh, I'm generally a progressive type of person but this is stupid.
They don't own people, they own the organization.

Then change the phrasing if you're the player.
Go from this:
"My relationship with my owner has been phenomenal."
To this:
"My relationship with the owner of our team has been phenomenal."
Problem solved.

Lebron effect
Draymond Green was the one who raised hell about it first. IIRC, it was from a spat with Cuban or regarding Cuban.
Draymond Green has more ignorant views than LeBron, and that's saying something.

It's the competition to be as woke as possible.

Why couldn’t he just say ownership or address the owner by his surname. Why does it even have to be hypothetically awkward. Obviously he didn’t feel like it was awkward.

Pretty soon, you won't be able to call someone a 'Home Owner'. Too racist.

"You shouldn't say owner," Green said.

When this happened, however long ago it was that the Draymond/owner quote happened, I went to his Twitter profile, found that, and posted it here.
All this time later, it's STILL there for me to post again today.
ETA: It was 9 months ago that became a story, he didn't bother to change his Twitter profile in those 9 months.

Well, they could just be like most normal people in the world and just refer to them as "my boss" or "my employer". That's how I always referred to the owner of the company I was working for.

I’m not even sure why we allow white people to own property in 2019.
Have we made no progress at all?

I would like to point out that I knew Lebron was a bitch before he got a TV show to let everyone know he is a bitch
