He’s going to get hot soon. I think in the Super Regionals he’s going to bat .500 with some very timely hits.
I seriously doubt that. He hasn't shown me anything to believe that will happen this year.
I'll be perfectly content (going forward) with Hughes if he plays good defense, draws walks, moves runners over, & makes the pitcher work for the out.
I don't really expect many hits out of him, so any hits he gets are just a bonus imo.

Every 18th at bat it’s Katie bar the door!

e neither til i just looked it up. Wasn't hard to add it up.
He has 26 hits on the season, 3 in SEC play. I guess those mid week games really do matter.
Not sure what you looked up but he has 9 hits in SEC play.

He needs to learn how to lean into a pitch. That would be his best offense.

The last time he reached base he had to introduce himself to the first base coach.

The batting average is not nearly as bad as the lack of a quality at bat. Not being able to move runners up the bases or score the guy from 3rd with less than two outs is painful to watch. He just looks over matched, I usually hope he keeps the bat on his shoulders and gets a walk, Our best hitter is right behind him.

I was just looking on lsusports, but it appears to be a bit off since some games are missing.

So what’s the true number? I don’t want to short change the kid.

He walked twice yesterday. He scores more runs than he’s given credit for

I am pulling for the young man. You could tell the stress of his hitting woes got to him in his last few at bats.
He looked lost and to have lost all confidence. His swings were tentative and it was obvious he was pressing. I felt sorry for him when the camera would follow him back into the dugout, you could see it wearing on him.
Kramer went through a slump like this in his early years and got hammered by the fans. I don't know that Hughes can improve like Kramer did, but he can certainly get better.
If he can string a few hits together and get some confidence back, I think he will hit better.
Despite what some tiger fans say, Mainieri is not stupid nor has he given up on the team. He must be convinced Hughes is his best option and can play his way out of this slump.
That said, I dont think Hughes starts next week. He is too far below the Mendoza line to justify being a defensive player only.

would be perfectly fine if he got to see at least 7 pitches every at bat.
You must be happy, then, because Hal saw a lot of pitches last weekend, and he hit the ball fairly well. He got robbed twice in the first game, got one hit and walked three times. If he does as well in the Supers I'll be happy.

Truthfully I can really see him breaking out and going 1-12 in the super regionals.

I put this in another of the (many) Hughes threads, but I think PM looks at it like this: It's a better gamble that 8 guys in the lineup can make up for the poor hitting of one than it is to allow one poor fielder to take down the chances of 8 other players.
Now, that calculus may shift in late game situations where it's more important to have a better bat vs. a better fielder, but PM emphasizes good defense and he trusts that Hughes is one of his better guys.

I think if he were going to heat up, we’d have seen some indication of it by now.
I’m sure he’s a great kid, but the ability just doesn’t seem to be there. He’s been here two years now and the light just isn’t coming on.

While you’re at it, give me some roulette numbers

He's 3-54 in SEC games this year,
He had 3 hits in the last game of the Arkansas series.
He didn’t go 0-51 against the rest of the league, as much as it may seem he did.

Garza needs to introduce Hughes to his slumpbuster biggun.
