Matt Wallner really struggled against the LSU pitching.

i don't think i can ever recall a team fouling off so many pitches. every at bat was excruciatingly long. they were legit at the plate. lsu pitchers were making competitive pitches but usm was just a darn good hitting club. i noticed that lsu pitchers were making good pitches with 1-2 counts but usm just kept fighting them off to get to a better hitter's count. whew

Yep.

But horrendous in the field.

If they were sound defensively, they could hang with anyone in the country.

Many southern miss fans cheer for LSU usually in football, etc. They always have my respect.

Can we hire their hitting coach?

My thoughts.

Their approach was really good. Aggressive on strikes or close pitches, let the waste pitches go, and Forced LSU pitching to focus and work really hard. They'd be a tough team to beat without a home crowd advantage. I've never witnessed so many foul balls on 2 strike counts from multiple different batters in college baseball. Ultimately Fontenot locked in down the stretch and his fastball was too much for them (hats off to Fontenot for the confidence and control to keep throwing them gas).

Very good baseball game. Glad LSU seems to be finding some chemistry both on offense and defense to overcome solid, scrappy teams like USM.

So it’s ok to kiss arse of teams LSU beats but not when they beat LSU?

They either:
1) Have a great swing coaching or some program/technology others could use
2) Scout batters/hitting potential extremely well - i.e. find diamonds in the rough
3) Got lucky with all of those disciplined hitters coming together

Time will tell...

They were scrappy and played tough as hell. Each at bat was a war they refused to lose.... I was impressed

That's exactly how Stony Brook beat us in 2012.

I’m sure he would like to be hired since he’s currently in a volunteer position

By their placement they would be # 20 seed of the 64 tournment teams. May have actually been better than that.
