CBS Sports

quote:

DESTIN, Fla. – If the idea was for Will Wade to clear the air, consider the future of both LSU basketball and its coach still wrapped in fog.

Wade spoke publicly Tuesday at the SEC's spring meetings for the first time since he was suspended on March 8 and reinstated 37 days later.

It did not go well.

While admitting to "mistakes being made," Wade partially blamed lawyers for his suspension that resulted from him refusing to meet with school officials after the infamous "strong-arse offer" comment was caught on an FBI wiretap.

"I think I made a poor decision in how I handled that," Wade said. "I think if I had to do it over I would have taken the meeting. Once you get lawyers involved things get more drawn out.

"Looking back on things [we should have] gotten in a room together a lot quicker than we did. That was my mistake. It was something I did in haste."

quote:

"It's going to take time to build trust with Scott," Wade said.

He was referring to new athletic director Scott Woodward.

Given all that, Wade's reputation might be the most damaged of any currently employed Division I coach.

The only good thing is that NCAA was involved already so if anything comes of it, I would think LSU felt comfortable enough to stay the course with Wade.
Let's face it, the only way LSU is competitive in hoops is to do what all the other schools have been doing. Who cares if LSU basketball is on probation if that's what you have to do to compete with the other cheaters.
I know one thing, the axis doesn't spin on LSU basketball. It's fun when they are good but does anyone really care about the period LSU was on probation and did it really matter in the grand scheme of things since everyone else was just as dirty as LSU when LSU got caught.
The system as it is currently set up, makes coaches operate in this sleazy underworld of recruiting that AAU and shoe companies created.
If you are not playing the game, you will not compete in college basketball since all the players were being funneled by shoe companies to the teams that will do it.

I am shocked that a CBS reporter thinks Wade is the at fault party here, shocked!

Dodd’s opinions really distract from the actual comments made by Wade. Sure, this whole situation looks bad for LSU and Wade, but Wade answered the questions well IMO.

Said he made a mistake and should’ve taken the meeting instead of listening to lawyers and avoiding it. What else can he say?

So, the NCAA is ok, LSU is ok, but CBS is dissatisfied with his responses to the press' questions. F**k 'em, I say.

WTF?

Did not go well??

How do any of these people pull a pay check?

And thank you, OP, for quoting the article so I didn't have to give him any clicks.

I thought WW handled himself maturely, placed the blame on himself and accepted responsibility. He came out as humbled and ready to coach his team again.

Nobody cares if an error was made in not taking the meeting. What everybody wants to know is whether there is an error in making a "strong arse offer".
He seems to speak to the former, not the latter.
If he has done nothing wrong, I do not understand the evasion on the key issue.

Dellenger Twitter

Seems addressed. That's about as far as I'd go with how the media twists things and takes everything out of context

I am glad wade is back but I don't understand the hypocrisy on this website with him. The same people acting like anything negative said about Wade is the worst thing that can happen are also the people that bash the shite out of the other coaches at LSU. It is really weird.

I will only speak ill of Nicky Fargas. And Brian Lee if he were still here.

But people love to hate on one of the big 3. CPM is the current flavor until O has his next offensive struggles

Here’s a link to his whole press conference.

Will Wade Press Conference

Dodd is a tool. Will did a great job answering the questions, and was very forward in all his responses. Just the media continuing to try and make LSU look bad.

All you retards that think “mistakes being made” has anything to do with buying recruits are just that - retards.
Mistakes being made is talking with Dawkins in the first place or using words like strong arse offer as posturing to keep a kid here as opposed to letting him go somewhere else when no offer was made outside of the normal s holly. OR IT COULD BE HOW HE HANDLED THE MEETING BY LISTENING TO HIS ORIGINAL LAWYERS!!! Just waist he said.

As far as gaining trust with Scott, ALL THOSE COACHES HAVE THAT FORST AND FOREMOST ON THEIR MINDS EXCEPT DD AND Beth. You can believe that shite.

So he told the truth and the local media smeared him for it again? Par for the course really, I know Wade won’t forget it either.
