I did see Manson that year. I prefer 2000. Probably had to do with how much "fun" we were having. It was only one day back then as well.

I completely understand. I briefly passed out near the fence during APC drunk as a teenage skunk and woke up to APC singing Backstreet Boys, wondering what the everliving frick was going on.

The people who trashed ACL gotta start thinking it looks great in comparison

Young The Giant and Beck are the only too that made me raise an eyebrow

I like Post too but the current pop acts at festivals are always miserable with preteens jumping around.

I remember this. I was only a few rows of people from the front. Was a good time.

I have the whole concert recording and a video of it. It's a shame it's not on youtube. Maybe I'll upload it one day.

i said i'd see Brand New every opportunity i got before they were supposed to break up in 2018 and i skipped them at voodoo 2017 because they were the only band worth seeing and i didn't want to go to a festival to see one band.

that stupid slut broke them up like a month after the festival :(

Did they officially call it quits? I know most people claimed Science Fiction would be their last album but don’t remember Jesse ever confirming they’re done. That said, I feel like they are done.

All I ask for from Voodoo is to provide 1 band a year that I really want to see at this point.

They do have one band a year I want to see. The problem is that its only one band. Very rarely do they have two bands total, much less on the same day, I care about. I've skipped some of my all time favorites, including some I will never have the chance to see again because the rest of the lineup is so bad. GNR were great in the dome. I'd go see them there again for sure. I don't want to deal with this festival though.

they haven't said anything at all since the stuff about Jesse's past came out. they cancelled the shows that were scheduled after that and nothing since. pretty safe to say they're done.

Yeah but even then here’s the way I look at it.

Voodoo has brought me so many artists that we would never get to see without them because they don’t come to NOLA (hopefully Fillmore changes that some) unless you go to other stats to catch them.

I’m sure some of these have come since 2003 when I was old enough to go on my own to these things, but the majority of these haven’t.

Rage Against the Machine
REM
Street Sweeper Social Club
Soundgarden
Eminem
APC twice
White Stripes
Green Day
Beastie Boys
Metric
Bring Me the Horizon
Muse
Blink 182
Stone Temple Pilots (w/ Scott Weiland)
Wyclef Jean
Angels and Airwaves
Jane’s Addiction
MGMT
Raconteurs
Die Antwoord
The Cure
Arcade Fire

If the Fillmore got these two bands, I'd be very impressed.

Well if the Fillmore got 3/4 of those acts (not including the ones with deceased singers/broken up), I'd be impressed. I guess Champions Square is the better candidate for a good chunk of those still possible.

I keep wondering what would be an absolutely awesome pull for Jazz Fest as all these huge name acts keep getting older, and I think pulling REM out of retirement could be a really cool pull that only a festival like Jazz Fest could manage.

ETA: and anyways, that proves my point, if Voodoo can at least bring 1 act a year that I wouldn't get to see otherwise, Fillmore/ Champ's Square/ Arena or not, I'm happy. They've given me alot over the years and though the lineup sucks, I can't take that from them.

What do you mean? I saw Rage, Soundgarden, Green Day and the Beastie Boys in New Orleans in the 90s. I know REM, the White Stripes, STP, Blink-182, Jane's Addiction, The Cure and Arcade Fire all made non-Voodoo stops in the city in the 90s, 00s and 10s. New Orleans is a great music city. Those big acts are going to come and play at the Smoothie King, Lakefront Arena or Champions Square. I kind of resent Voodoo because all those acts who would normally pass through on their fall tours end up getting squeezed in one weekend where they play shorter sets. It's not a gigantic festival like Coachella or Bonnaroo where you get someone like Radiohead to do their lone US show of the year.

Voodoo sucks nowadays. Gone are the days when they could get 2 or 3 big acts for each day. Even when you take away the big bands of the past...... the rest of it was much better quality. But if they can suck people in with such shite it makes no sense to pay for more.

Again, the age part

Blink came in 2017 with Skiba instead of Delonge. Delonge is likely to never play with Blink ever again.

REM played I know of sometimes in 2003-2004 or so I think. To boot, Voodoo was their last show EVER in the USA, so if I didn’t get to see that it was donezos.

Jane’s addiction is voodoo or nothing since 1991.

White Stripes hasn’t come back since their 2003 Voodoo and their donezos too it looks like.

Stone Temple Pilots last non voodoo stop with Weiland was 2002. Weiland’s dead.

The Cure and Arcade Fire I’m not looking up because those were bands that I saw because I had a 3 day pass and wouldn’t have sought out on my own.

So yeah. I have a lot of memories from Voodoo AND managed to disprove your statement. These are things I literally can’t get back or literally couldn’t have gotten without Voodoo/leaving the city. Trust me, we have not been big stops on arena/stadium tours. I have been disappointed by many a “tour dates list”.

STP were broken up for most of the early 2000s while Weiland was with Velvet revolver. I think they played Voodoo one year too. STP with Weiland played Baton Rouge around 2007, Weiland did two solo shows in Baton Rouge plus one in New Orleans in the year before he died.

The Cure played two nights in a row at Lakefront Arena just a couple of years ago. Them and Jane's Addiction are both old and don't tour much these days. I think Perry Farrell is doing some new project now.

As you mentioned, REM and the White Stripes have both been broken up for a long time now. Jack White has played New Orleans plenty of times with his other projects since then.
