Years ago I trained dogs with a guy who was German and he imported German Shepherds to train according to the customers needs. It was amazing the difference from a German dog and an American bred dog. If you want a German Shepherd and you have the funds, find an imported puppy. STAY away from The dogs bred here unless they have strong German lines.

European boxers look much better than American and European Doberman Pinschers also look much better than American. They keep the "working" traits in them.

The price difference is in the $1000s but yea. There is a difference. But, I have a pure bred American German Shepherd, backyard bred from 2 old people and he is a very good dog. Protective, loyal, and extremely smart. As smart as the 2 Aussies I owned, if not smarter. He is very high energy and has found squirrels for me that I couldnt find. He is going to track his first deer this year with no blood tracking experience. Im 100% confident he will find the deer. His drive is ridiculous. He is tan and black, but I noticed he has a patch of red hair on his back so its possible he has some German lines in him. Either way, he is a fine dog.

We had one. If you have room they are great. Ours would pen cows, tree squirrels, tree the meter man, track deer and do all kinds of cool tricks. She was smart enough to understand English. I'm getting another one soon

I have two Standard Poodle. Smart, great with kids, loyal, no shedding; however, grooming can be a pain in the arse and expensive. When trained, can be great hunting dogs.

You can never go wrong with a Standard Poodles.

American Bulldog is almost always a safe choice without knowing much about the OP.

If OP doesn’t have the time to train a German Shepherd then he needs to look at another breed. When German Shepherds aren’t trained they tend to be aggressive lunatics.

Brittany spaniel. By far one of the funniest, loving, quirkiest dogs I've ever been around.

Find a German Shepherd breeder who imports dogs with Schutzhund degrees and breeds dogs according to the German code. If you take your time and search for these breeders you can get a puppy for $3000.

Where did you find that mix? Was it from a breeder or a shelter? I recently lost my catahoula, and that sounds like a great dog for my next.
