Our pit viper friends and the coral snake don't spend a lot of time climbing stuff. Just relax.

Let me amend. Back in the late 90s, I went fishing on a good warm day in early April in the Henderson swamp. In more than one stunted cypress tree I saw Cottonmouths up in the branches sunning themselves. In fact I saw a couple very close at eye level.

It’s alive and that’s “problematic”.

Well for every ten of you there is one of me. I can tell the difference in venomous and non-venomous snakes. And out here in the woods of East Texas I've scooped up a number of Cottonmouths and Copperheads and released them across the street. But I watch where I walk carefully all the time.

Unless I know it's venomous it lives. I usually bring my kid out to look at it and we try to figure out what kind it is and she writes it down. She has a reptile journal that she started when she was 5 or so (she's 12 now)

Cheesy shite I do with my kid

I’ll never understand the mindless fear/hatred of snakes. So many people will kill a snake even though they know it is harmless.

Yeah frick that. I ran over a cottonmouth with the bush hog this morning and regret it not one bit.

Pulled a 6’ rat snake out of the attic of the farm and wife won’t hardly go back in the house.

I think I know what that snake is. To be sure I'd have to get closer and look for the Loreal pits.

I've been bitten by a speckled king and yes I was messing with it. Feels like cockleburs or a sticker bush.

I wouldn't pick a snake up now unless it was in my house but they aren't vicious creatures. I don't blame you for killing a venomous one around your place though. I killed 3 or 4 at our last house. I had a little girl and a dog.

The picture you posted looks nothing like the OP. Cotton mouths are fat stumpy, angry little fricks that are usually midnight black. If not totally black very slight discoloration with no true pattern.

Big snake climbing like that definitely a rat snake. Pretty harmless. Always had them climbing up trees looking for bird nest when we were kids.
