Game of Thrones - season by season ratings on Rotten Tomatoes

This is why I don't watch that much television. American TV shows go on forever and, when they do attempt to wrap up the story, they do it in the most unsatisfying way possible. Game of Thrones should have continued on for at least 3 seasons with 10 episodes a piece - which is what GRRM was trying to convince the showrunners of since season five.
Season 1 - 91%
Season 2 - 96%
Season 3 - 96%
Season 4 - 97%
Season 5 - 93%
Season 6 - 94%
Season 7 - 93%
Season 8 - 53%
What pisses me off about the final season is that it didn't have to be the final season. HBO wanted them to go until at least season 10, GRRM wanted them to go until seasons 10-13, but D&D were adamant that they could wrap up everything that needed to get wrapped up in 8 seasons (with the final two seasons shortened). The result? A rushed pile of shite.

Yep they ruined an otherwise fantastic show by trying to rush the ending.

If the other seasons were done like 7/8 then Ned gets his head chopped off Episode 3 and the Red Wedding is the Season 1 cliff hanger.

Some people are stuck in the Anger phase in their 5 steps of grief.
Some people are in denial (signing a petition)
I’ve moved on to acceptance. I’ve accepted the turd that was forced on me and moved on with my life.

Not that I am doubting you, but where did you hear GRRM wanted 13 seasons?

Individually, I have no problems with the episodes in general. I thought they all did a good job of what the purpose of each episode was suppose be. Last episode could've ended stronger, but it is what it is. The Long Night battle was amazing and Daenerys burning King's Landing was a great sequence. Episode 2 was great build up to the coming event.
With that said, in the context of the show, the season as a whole could be seen as a disappointment. They build up all of these story lines, character arcs, and major events, only to blow through them in a matter of an hour. The whole story line of the Night King and the army of the dead could've easily filled an entire season or at least 5 episodes. You have been building this force up for season after season, and in a matter of 2 episodes its over?
Turning to face Cersei and the turn of the Daenerys would've filled 6-7 episodes on its own. But we get sped through mad Daenerys instead. D&D build up massive character acts, like Arya's, and never fully utilize them. Bran is another example of this with the three eyed raven and Night King rivalry and all we get is a short staring contest between the two of them. No further explanation, no nothing. This is may biggest complaint with the season. There is no need to rush the story telling. You've been doing this for years, why would you want to rush the final stretch of it for the sake of getting it done.
This season doesn't ruin the entire show for me. I really hoped for a great and truly memorable ending, and we only got moments of it.

GRRM should have sold the tv rights to HBO and not to D&D.

What they should have done was extended season 7 by 3 episodes and finished the NK story last season. Then this season should have been 10, and could have been used really building up the final battle with Cersei, and exploring how Danny goes mad along with all the interpersonal character development that has made this show so incredible. Instead we got the Wikipedia plot points of a season.
I’m ok with the outcomes of this season. It just feels really unearned.

I don’t think they needed 10 seasons but season 7 and 8 should have been full 10 episode seasons.
I think the biggest mistake they made was having a total of 13 episodes for the last 2 seasons.

Seasons 1-7 were all solid. Regardless of what people say about it dropping off after 4. Season 8 was definitely a drop off but still enjoyable. People got mad because they read the leaks, which were on target and in my opinion that’s why so many people were as pissed as they were.

Honestly, HBO should do this. Just pick up after Season 6 with new writers and pretend like 7 and 8 never happened.

10 seasons would've been brutal though. Dany would still be in Mereen like the books.
7 and 8 should've been 10 episodes each though like all the other seasons.

I’m really surprised season 7 is that high, I found it to be quite bad, especially after rewatching it.

How many " ummmm people only hate s8 because their theory was wrong ahyuck ahyuck" posts have their been yet?

I was fine with the final season. It's quality was no worse than anything after they ran out of book material
But people are gonna complain because they didn't get the ending they wanted.

I honestly thought they were possibly getting pushed to wrap it up due to cost or actors not wanting to continue so I kind of gave them the benefit of the doubt but If this is true they deserve every bit of hate and shite thrown at them. frick them for ruining an otherwise fantastic show
