Why didn't PM walk Mangum?

At the time it seemed like the right thing to do. Load the bases with 2 outs and get past MSU's most clutch hitter.
I'm not a baseball expert by any means but I believe walking Mangum would have resulted in a better outcome for the Tigers.

It would have put the winning run at 2nd.
I think you can go either way in this situation, but I think that was his main motivation for not doing it.

I think the announcers pointed out that every single time this season that Mangum had been intentionally walked, the batter behind him got a hit. It happened in the 2nd or 3rd inning as well. Now we did walk him in extra innings and actually recorded the first out of the season against Miss State after intentionally walking Mangum.
But it was a coin flip on whether to walk him or not. Not a set in stone deal.

This! Plus he probably thought he could induce him to hit a grounder?

What inning are we talkin' here?
If we walked Mangum in the 16th, it would have put the winning runner in scoring position.

Why Broussard should of made the play. Ball game we win!

Its 16 innings in I would rather roll the dice against their 2 hole hitter who had not been able to lay off the breaking ball all night then to pitch to magnum. Just my opinion.

It's all about weather you are going for win or not to lose
You pitch to Mangum and you are more likely to give up 1 run but not 2 than if you load them up. You load them up then you are likely giving up 0 runs or 2, so your average runs given up is probably higher, but the chance of you giving up exactly 0 runs is also higher.
Also as the home team you much rather come back from a 1 run deficit than a 2 run deficit in one inning. That goes without out saying but its more than twice as hard to score 2 runs instead of 1 in an inning.
eta: also if we win the game we are hosting a regional, it's a must win game so you do whatever you need to do to extend the game and win, not "roll the dice"

Exactly, you have one on 3rd already so loading up bases would not change anything cause a single gets the runner in anyway. Very puzzling

This....and I agreed with it 100% of the time before last night....last night may have took it down to 99.99% because that 2 hole guy had gotten owned by Hilliard in his previous AB.....I may have taken a shot at him right there.....honestly neither decision would have been incredibly wrong in my opinion.

He had gotten owned since Beck came in the game.

A better outcome than a grounder right to an infielder?

They tied the game on Mangum’s ab. The winning run was the next inning. Had they of walked Mangum then the winning run is in scoring position. He hit a weak ground ball, and we misplayed it. Oh well.

Either way was acceptable, baseball is a percentages and probability game.
Strict percentages, you don't put the winning run on 2nd when you're up one.
But yeah, you have to take players into account too; lots of people agree that you don't pitch to a team's far-and-away best batter up one with 2 outs and and open base, either.
I think it's a valid complaint, personally. You need to take a few chances and break the patterns.

The tying run yes but as multiple people have already stated it would have moved the winning run the 2nd and a single now wins it.
