We had a kid who transferred in from a public school that had these and was mocked ruthlessly the one day he wore them.
The cool fad at my school was wearing Lacoste shirts instead of our school uniform shirts, which were white polos with a similarly sized logo.

I must be old.
Or young.
Or something
Ditto. I can’t figure it out.

Never heard of them. When were these popular?

Very late 90s/early 2000s
The fad ended by early 8th grade for my school. Lasted from about October 2000-September 2001

Glad I missed out on this whole shoe fad. I’ve never even heard of them until now. I graduated high school in 2001.
This was prime shoe grind time, baw. Sorry you didn’t have cool friends.

I always played basketball as a kid, so b-ball shoes is what my parents bought me. I thought etnies were cool looking shoes though. If I would have skateboarded I would have rocked those. I've never even heard of Soap Shoes.

Seems old to me, I didn’t turn 18 until two weeks before I started LSU

I think even my parents would have told me these were terrible

I mean how are there this many people that didnt know, depending on your birthday/when you started school, you could be 18 when you graduated?
I mean yall are seriously making fun of him for the wrong reason and kind of make yourself look stupid.

I lived in the Northwest and these definitely were really popular. Some of these responses in hear really take me back to Freshman year at LSU when a bunch of douches with dad bods that dressed like my 60 year old uncle would make fun of me for wearing Nike's lol you were a loser if you didn't have Soaps. Hilarious what a different world the South is.

I went to school in the Dallas Fort Worth area, no idea what regions of the country these shoes were popular but in 7th grade every in my class had either soap shoes or wheelies. At a school dance one night we had a long PVC pipe we stole from a construction site, put a ton of wax on it and were grinding on it out in the courtyard. Fun times.
I think the main reason the fad ended was because us kids who had them grew out of them and didn't buy another pair. I think mine were a size 7 and I wear an 11 shoe these days.

I had them. Got them after I saw Brink on Disney channel. They banned them at our school after a few months because they kept having to repaint ledges. I sucked at it, though. I busted my arse a few times and just decided to wear them to fit in.

Ya, Brink had a lot to do with non-skater/non-skier kids to get Soaps when it came out. We had to take out the wax if I remember right (weren't outright banned) because of the damage we did to the property.
