This is a really good video about Charity Hospital and what has become of it if you can get past the fact the narrator says New Or-leans.

This is crazy. My best friend was in an accident in 2000. He needed to have a couple plates put in his head and this is where they brought him. Crazy to think that was almost 20 years ago. I remember going here and walking the halls, crazy to see what it looks like now. I hope they can do something with the property. (he had excellent care while he was there)

Buddy of mine is a surgeon and he said it was the best place to go if you ever got shot bc they saw so many shooting victims.

Also, the plans for redevelopment look pretty cool. It will be nice to see that building cleaned up.

They had a room I think on the ground floor that was full of specimens. Jars of the weirdest stuff imaginable. A lot of them were babies that were deformed. I wonder what happened to all that stuff. I’m sure it had to freak out whomever had to remove it.

Knew a nurse that worked there in the 90s, and man, she had some stories:

Prisoner from JP had to have emergency surgery to remove a large part of lower intestine, as it was necrotic. He was Septic and almost died.

The source of the infection was his colostomy stoma (hole)...

Culture came back: Gonorrhea.

...for cigarettes.

Another was a 14 yr old girl. Her chief complaint was:

"I got vines in my 'cho."

Her 'cho.
Vines.

Apparantly, she was told about a fool-proof home birth control method, and used a red potato as a diaphragm.

It sprouted, had been in her 'cho for a month. Nurse said the smell was incomprehensible.

Can't make this shite up, baws.

I bet there are so many diseases and bacteria still alive on surfaces inside that place.

My paternal uncle is an OBGYN and he had to do his residency at Charity Hospital New Orleans. He delivered the hell out of some illegitimate black babies. He had some funny stories to tell. He said he now knows how the German army felt on D-Day because they just wouldn’t stop coming and coming.
