My ancestors fought under both flags in the civil war

I understand it’s a emotional thing and I understand why some black people hate it. I also understand why some white people love it.

It’s not a big deal to me.

My father is a confusing person. He is from up north loves the Rebel flag and votes Democrat.

Truth be told, I’d say probably somewhere around 90% of people who claim to be bothered by the Confederate Battle Flag only care about it for these reasons

1. People are sheep
2. They’re told they’re supposed to be offended by it
3. The cool thing today is to be offended

I’m white

I don’t give a second thought to the flags or statues.

I think being offended by them is silly.

I really don’t understand the significance of it. If someone wants to fly it, fine. If someone wants to ban it, I could care less.

We (southerners) let the kkk racists appropriate the symbol. It’s over. Let it go for now.

Upper class people tend to socialize more with different people, have something to lose, and don’t want to do anything stupid to offend people that could cause backlash.

Also many poor whites have no success to be proud of, so they flaunt their heritage as a way of clinging to some sort of southern pride

We could drink beer together.

But why is it that I see the flag waving in poorer, or lower income areas but never in higher income areas?

Probably because of the blowback that the middle and upper class face. Poor people have less to lose with their careers.

Just my guess. Enjoy the game.

Poorer whites may have the belief they are where they are because of African Americans...just a wild guess, have never asked but don't believe I socialize with poor whites to ask.

Fact is the flag is just a symbol for having pride in being from the South. Anyone making more out of it (on both sides) are just idiots. And yes, 100%, wealthy Southerners only value money, they couldn't give two shits about Southern heritage.

Those 3K people in the USA can fly what they want to. It is no reflection on me. I don't associate all black people with the terrorist group BLM. Social media only represents a tiny proportion of mainstream thinking.

I live in Alamo Heights which is a rather nice little enclave (for San Antonio standards) and there is a single house with a confederate flag in front. It is probably the trashiest house. Still not that bad though. Just thought I would add. Personally I would fly one in front of my house. I am interested to read the comments.

Dixie is home.

If everyone in the south started flying ole Bonnie blue no one would give notice.

I have rebel flags. I still love everybody.

I’ve never liked the flag really. And I used to hate purple and gold rebel flags, but anyone should have the right to buy one on Amazon if they choose.

You can buy an ISIS flag on Amazon but not a rebel flag.

A modern day analog to the Rebel flag is Trump gear. I will be flying my Trump flag in 2020 after I get my surveillance cameras and booby traps installed.

I'm not going to read every reply to see if this explanation has been given just forewarning.

I think the people that identify with the rebel flag do so out of a sense of regional and ancestral pride.

To them, the confederate flag symbolizes standing up for your way of life and defending your home front against all odds, a sense of pride in where you are from.

Other people, who you have identified as being more financially accomplished, have other things to take pride in. They may see the flag as a symbol of the same types of things your lower income friends do, but it doesn't mean enough to them to chance it upsetting you, or anyone else.

I wouldn’t risk showing the rebel flag now days because once you are out on blast on social media for being a racist, that can effect a ton in your life and i can’t afford to lose certain things
