How Close to the House Can You Plant a Tree?

Does anyone know what kind of tree (preferably flowering) that I can plant close to the house without messing with the foundation? I guess it doesn't have to be a tree, maybe a tall shrub? I want something to accent the corner for a little more curb appeal. Thank you in advance for the help.

There's a dwarf magnolia variety that would work.

Hard to answer this. At least 10ft but we would be fine if it grew much taller.

We have definately thought about one of those. We thought about doing something different since everyone has one but I think that's probably the best suggestion.

Looked that up, solid choice. Do you know how much the roots spread out?

Wow that's a great option, I like that its attractive to hummingbirds. Good size.

May be referring to Little Gem Magnolia, semi-tall dwarf columnar small tree. I have one planted on the driveway side of my house, 5-6 feet from driveway, about 8 feet from house foundation. It does not have have an aggressive root system. Great tree. In Louisiana, it is a LSU AgCenter designated Super Plant. Evergreen.
Lately, I’ve seen them being planted with regularity on house corner foundations in our area. They look great in that role.
OP - good plant to consider if you are looking for something different, particularly if you’d like a narrow, columnar small evergreen tree.

Link to Arbor Day Foundation webpage for Red Buckeye
Is the fruit/nuts dropped by the Red Buckeye a PITA, mild nuisance, or not an issue at all?
quote:The "fruit" is kinda big. I have a hickory tree and the hickory nuts are a major nuisance.
Yields fruit 1½–2" in diameter with a smooth or slightly pitted shell that encloses 1–3 dark brown seeds.

Red Buckeye is a pretty tree and I considered one for my backyard. Then I learned the seeds are poisonous to dogs, and didn’t want to risk it with my Lab knowing there are many good alternatives.

roots underground will spread out just as far as the branches of the canopy above ground so do not plant it close
