T/F Past a certain age, a man without a family can be a bad thing

Doing a rewatch of True Detective. In the first episode, Marty (Woody Harrelson), while observing Rust’s isolate behavior, went to Rust’s nearly empty apartment and later said that, “Past a certain age, a man without a family can be a bad thing.”
What are your thoughts about this? Do you agree with it, or disagree? And for “family”, I’d broaden the scope to include girlfriends. I wouldn’t strictly limit it to a wife and kids.

In the South there is definitely a certain stigma. Probably around 30 is strange. In other areas of the country, not so much.

I start wondering what their fetish is that prevents them from finding someone.

Uh, no. That's not strange at all.

Exactly.. the South has it backwards.. like you said, in the rest of the world, you do what the frick you want to do.. i’m married now and happy, but i’ve been in relationships before where i’ve been way more miserable than when i was single.. Do what the frick you want.

Define without a family? A man married with no kids or a man with no wife and no kids?

The ironic thing about this quote is, and SPOILER ALERT, do not read the following if you’re only on the first ep...
.
.
*at the end of the first season, Woody Harrelson’s character loses his family and is a depressed divorced dad eating TV dinners in a shitty apartment**
.
So take that line in the first episode with a huge bag of salt.

It is not good that man should be alobe.

So you’re contemplating a line from an HBO series that’s five years old?
And really reflecting on it?
I think you should worry more about why this garners your attention than what A fictional character said in a fantasy crime drama.

Family life has responsibilities, not everyone is up to that task.

I'm one of the oddballs that's 30+ and single and actually happy about it. Don't let the married folk fool you. They'd suck your dick just to taste the remnants of another vagina.

There's something to be said for always having it around if you want it, that leads to happier men.

quote:Compared to the rest of the country, Louisiana has it backwards. But definitely not compared to the rest of the world. Basically everywhere other than the US, Europe, and developed Pacific countries, the expectation is marriage by 30. And in many places much earlier.
in the rest of the world, you do what the frick you want to do
Louisiana’s early marriage expectation is much more in line with the rest of the world than the coastal metropolis do whatever whenever paradigm.

Past 30 isn’t really a big deal
I’d be more concerned past 60 with no one to care for my old arse
